From C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity".

In this essay, C.S. Lewis explores the concept of faith as understood in Christianity, dividing it into two senses: belief in Christian doctrines and the virtue of faith that persists through changing moods and emotions. He emphasizes that faith involves holding onto beliefs despite emotional challenges and moods that threaten to undermine them. He argues that true understanding of faith requires recognizing one's own pride and the difficulty of practicing Christian virtues, ultimately acknowledging our dependence on God for everything. This realization leads to the second, deeper sense of faith, where one recognizes that everything we have is already God's, and true spiritual awakening begins.
