Still testing this stuff a bit. When we went to test the values as the formula suggests it indeed does block damage exactly as described if your Block Armor + Stagger cover the damage amount, though I did run into a case where even though damage was fully blocked my character was staggered. Will have to test a bit more on how that works. Let me know in the comments if you have any info on it.

Thank you so much!!! this is what i've been looking for, because i'm using brutal slayer greatsword in ashlands, and i cannot parry the 1 star morgen if my health so low, so this is the explanation why i cannot parry it

Not all heroes wear capes... But it looks like this one does. Lol

What about regular armor? Where/how does that enter the calculation?

what's the importance of the block force number then? I mostly knew the parry damage and block armor things, but I still cannot figure out what the block force does for you lol

So how do you determine how much damage you take though? Cause I still take damage when I'm blocking it seems

Great explanation! I've always thought that parry bonus is the damage bonus you get from a successful parry but it's about block armor multiplier.

The stagger system doesn't make sense at harder difficulties. You can have the same HP, and get staggered from a perfect parry, because the game just scales up the damage, but the amount of HP you can get from food stays the same. Anyone trying to block hits in the mistlands with smaller HP pools knows the pain at max difficulty. I ended up just becoming a ranged Skyrim character. The melee combat doesn't translate as well at the higher difficulties, since it changes the mechanics of when you can block and parry correctly. Even using the serpent shield since it has a bonus to piercing damage, mixed with Swamp armour for its piercing resistance, doesn't do much if your overall HP pool is low. You just get staggered anyways, with high armour and stacking two different piercing mitigators. I tried testing it against mosquitos at max difficulty, and all that piercing resistance didn't do anything if your overall HP is too low.

Still wish they did some work on the combat clunkyness, and the animation delays.

Not clear what 'stagger bar' is. Is it the red column? The current HP?

As someone who 1st time played Valheim and we struggled with many enemies on Hard Mode, we even struggled a lot in Swamp cause you could never parry and its never ever worth it

We even looked up a tutorial how to defeat the Bonemass easily cause our gears and stamina where not doing anything to help us at all, the tutorials we found said “JUST PARRY THE BONEMASS” man me and my brother where so pissed after we tried that, i thought i wasn’t timing my parries and thats when i figured out that its just not possible, all this time it wasn’t possible at all and i was still trying, this game aint sekiro, hell it aint even dark souls, in that game the Stamina is at least better compared to this game, let alone that swamp kept as wet which reduced stamina Gain by a lot.

My Block level was around at 19 when we got to Ashlands, we managed to avoid dying a lot after Swamp but man trying to level up Block just takes too much time and when we got to ashlands it was like the 500 days or so, after the Swamp incident i never tried blocking/parrying ever since just dodging the enemy and striking them right after.

Tried leveling up the Block level after we defeated Fader, its at 40 now and im able to Block and parry a “Charred Warrior” now.
