I don't need a man's money, yet I don't want a man that needs mine.

She sounds like a fool! Stedman’s net worth is $10 million. He’s not relevant in a bus driver scenario.

This Opp!

Black women being told to accept less

An attorney, who is also famous may not have much in common with the mindset of a man who is content being a bus driver. Dating people that are on different financial levels comes with different lifestyles, hobbies etc too. People have overly simplified the conversation. Everyone has a right to choose a partner that suits their desires. Go watch Iyanla’s real thoughts on why she wouldn’t get married again after 3 failed marriages from back in the day. Please.

I’m so confused! Do men want a woman that goes 50/50 or a traditional woman?? And why are BW considered “greedy” when we want a man that can financially provide?? White women get it; Asian women get it, Arabs; why is that privilege afforded to every other group but BW?

Every other group of people is encouraging their people to get into positions of power, or money and we’re up here arguing about bus drivers.Let it go already!

Steadman is a self made millionaire and owned a consulting and marketing firm before the Oprah Winfrey show ever aired. He’s had his own money. Along the way Oprah became a billionaire. That’s not the same sis.

Miss me with the fake concern. Eboni was not talking about money, she was talking about lifestyle, mindset, and shared values. Don't misconstrue her right to have an opinion and a preference.

This did not give what she thought it would. Whoever she wants to date and at whatever income level they happen to be in, it is her business. Only pick me black women have a problem with what she said

It's amazing how most of the women commenting can't seem to understand what is being said here. Get secure overall in life and truly think these things through when it comes to a potential partnership.

Many black women who want to be married have had to marry down since the 1980s when interracial marriage became legal. Unfortunately Black self hatred is real.

she’s basically saying what Rebecca Lynn Pope has been saying for years; women with money should date like men with money

Eboni said what she said. Don't get ruffled with HER choices.

First off, why in the world would any sane woman date down? It's not smart. But speak your speech, I guess someone believes it. Just not me. My man needs to be on level or above me. I've done it the other way and the man is usually the bothered one. Not dealing with that ever again.

Why can't we date who we want? Remember if it wasn't an issue of a lot of Black men not rising to their potential we wouldn't be having this conversation. I don't know where this " I don't need a man" came from. I had a father that elevated my brothers and I into the middle class. We were always encouraged to do better and at least date people on our level. Comparing Stedman to a bus driver is apples to oranges. Stedman graduated from Ball State University. Eboni has already decided a bus driver is a no. Good sound bite though. BTW the conversation is not only about money. Date a bus driver if you want sis. This woman is tired of struggle.

I would date a bus driver in a minute but his profession isn’t the issue.. most women are looking for a man who she can respect and admire!

Character, integrity, consistency, a plan, drive, loves God and love her, money management!! I can work with you on the rest!! I’m just tired

Oprah and Steadman are not a comparable example. Steadman has followed his purpose, he's passionate about his work, and he's made an impact on the lives of young people. That he doesn't earn as much as Oprah isn't the point. If you have no plans other than driving the bus it's not unreasonable for someone walking in their purpose to decide it's not a match. There are lot's of jobs that pay so little that driving the bus would be a financial come up. People don't have the same feelings about youth workers, mentors, community organisers or activists, most of these people are not rich. There is something about a person with a purpose.

BW have been forced to think it through for 400+ years. If they couldn’t show in all that time we need to try something different. That’s what we’re doing. Miss us with all the stupid.
