Free End Reflection

Показать описание
A wave machine is used to demonstrate the behavior of a wave at a free end. A pulse is introduced at the left side of the machine and travels to the right (from the camera's point of view). As it reaches the end of the machine, it reflects back to the left. Observe that the crest reflects as a crest. There is no inversion in the case of free end reflection.

can somebody explain how and why a rotational movement of the hand (fast clock wise-counter clock wise rotation of the nails) creates the observed forward motion of the wave?

also in this particular experiment what determines the speed of the propagating wave? The size of the nails? The elasticity/tensile strength of the center wire? Or maybe the hand motion itself?
