my mother accidentally taught my pet crow to ask "what's wrong?" when it feels stressed. it doesn't understand what it means, but that's what my mother asks when it's in distress, so it made a connection.
now everytime it's afraid or in a bad mood it runs around my room repeatedly murmuring "what's wrong? what's wrong? what's wrong?" inbetween incomprehensible babbling.

I accidentally taught my parrot to say qoutes that i repeat during tics so now he randomly says them which always makes me laugh. He also yells "thats so cunty" randomly so thats wonderful

My parents tell me yelling "WHAT" is rude. But they're probably the people who taught me to do so. This whole family is slowly becoming hard of hearing

A friends parrot tells you to come closer all the time and when you do he screams bloody murder in your ear. Fascinating creatures. He also randomly laughs at the tv. Could be a super sad, dramatic scene and he’d be in the back cackling, losing his birdshit. 😅

"what" is pretty easy for parrots to pick up. Ours learned it because dad was hard of hearing and we yelled messages at each other thru the house, becausenmy parents were literally afraid of texting (ItS FREE, IT COSTS NOTHING, Why arent you texting each other!?)

For me, the craziest thing a parrot can do is not mimic human speech, but noises in general. Imagine a parrot imitating a dog bark or a door knock while living in the same house with a loud dog, they're just gonna keep going

Parrots are so cool!! Most species don’t recognize/grasp language like we would (individual words go into sentences) but they CAN understand the meaning of phrases and apply it in ways that make sense (well, depending on how they learned it Ig). I had a GCC and he was such a talker! It was crazy how he always applied the words to the right situations. Not all birds can/will do this, but it’s interesting to see when they do :)

I taught my grandparents' parrot how to say "damn you're hot!!" whenever my mom walked by and now he says that to every woman he sees

My dad's friend had a parrot that would pick up the house phone and speed dial his parents
When they answered he would say random things in the voice of my dad's friend and mess with them
He also learned to immitate how the ringtone sounded, and he would make them pick up the phone all the time
He usually learned the new ringtone in around three days lol

Fun fact: one of the only recorded instances of an animal asking a question for knowledge (instead of a want or need) was a grey parrot that asked "what color?" While looking at herself in the mirror. When she was told she was grey she repeated while looking in the mirror "grey"
