If you did a proper rebuild on the sr20 (machine shop, blueprinted etc) it would be perfect for your purposes. If you still want to do e85 you could even go high compression to improve response some. Keeping with the sr20 you would maintain the good weight balance and driving characteristics the car has, makes the most sense to me. JZ's are dope af but way to heavy in a mostly stock chassis 240, with a rear mount and re-engineered chassis with weight taken out and moved all over the JZ makes more sense like how your S15 will be.

I rebuilt mine in 2009 with 86.5mm oversized pistons. 8.5 years later it is STILL running. I know it now needs new piston rings but it doesn't smoke and has minimal blowby etc. I haven't done as much drifting and track days as you but it definitely got abused over the years. SRs' are considered to be VERY reliable engines (and frankly they are).
