I had student when I taught at a Christian school whose dad was on death row for killing a young woman. There was suspicion that he killed the mother of my former student. When this student reached adulthood, her father was eventually executed.

Forgiveness is one of the number one things that is totally twisted by the false church. God says we are to forgive as He forgives. Does God forgive us without our true repentance? NO! Neither should we. We can only forgive someone if they have truly repented and made restitution. Jesus said in Luke 17:3 “and IF THEY REPENT, forgive them”. Yet so many confused or false Christian’s shove forgiveness down people’s throats, and they put pressure and condemnation on the one who has been sinned against, instead of on the one who sinned and is not the slightest bit sorry! God is not unreasonable or mean, expecting us to forgive wicked people who could not care less about how they have hurt us or others. He tells us to stay away from the wicked. He only ever asks us to forgive someone if they actually, truly repent.
