Unlike C3P0, who had been designed for translation and etiquette, R2D2 was built for military service and transfer of secret coordinates, so he had a more secure memory bank, and defence mechanisms should he be attacked. C3P0 also struggled to tell lies, even with its altered programming from Anakin’s modifications, as its verbobrain had been designed to store large amounts of information, to be relayed by senators and ambassadors.
