Once bound for extinction, giant pandas were saved by their one evolutionary advantage: they're adorable. Scott Pelley reported on their resurgence in 2019. This week, two giant pandas from China arrived at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.

They also train them for temperature checks via opening their mouths and blood pressure checks. They are incredibly smart and such beautiful creatures. ❤

These scientists are absolute heroes! How wonderful that their situation is taken so seriously. And to think that China just gave us TWO baby pandas! What an honor. Thank you to everyone who is involved in panda conservation 💖💖💖

Pandas are of one-child family species, that is, they are well brought up generation after generation, and one of smartest animals in the world.

I'm dying of cuteness ❤
I'm only in pro of zoos when animals are in a process of rehabilitation, or are endangered species. But, how can I make an intelligent comment when I'm just dying of cuteness?

“Are we saving the pandas … Or are the pandas saving us?!” Definitely the pandas are saving us in my opinion. They save us from going insane with all the horrible things that are happening in this troubled world by bringing us so much joy and happiness. Grateful for the smile they put on my face whenever I see them. ❤🐼

The reserve is a good idea in my opinion. Pandas still need humans' help for survival now. For the future, I really do not know. I think we have saved them in the past near 100 years.

I wonder if there used to be some other plant or animal that pandas used to eat that gave them much better nutrition and increased their fertility, but it went extinct, and no one realizes it. And then they were forced to eat only bamboo, for whatever reason, because it's the only other food that works for them, but only so-so, and they were hanging by a thread. This would make sense for why they have a GI tract that can handle meat. Has anyone ever looked into this as a possible explanation as to why they have to eat so much bamboo, and why it's so difficult for them to reproduce? Have there been any other cases where an animal species was going extinct and researchers figured out that this was the reason why?
