Squid Game Old Man Il-Nam Details You ABSOLUTELY Missed!
Показать описание
A dystopian vision of a polarized society, Netflix’s newest smash hit Squid Game is the latest manifestation of the ever-growing influence of South Korea’s popular culture, epitomised by K-Pop sensations BTS and BlackPink, and the subtitled Oscar-winning film Parasite. It is undeniable that the series has become a global hit, dominating almost a hundred countries in just a span of a few weeks, and reaching the west’s biggest regions such as the UK and US, without hardcore promotion on its back. Its tasteful blend of a colorful plot, social allegory, and uncompromising treatments creates South Korea’s latest culture phenomenon. Apart from the fact that the series features everything an average viewer would want to see in a dystopian game of death, including the most marginalized such as the deeply in debt, a migrant worker, and a North Korean defector, the story also depicts a lot of twists. Squid Game is replete with colorful and unique takes on kid games, but it also showcased a shock factor, like when the series revealed in the second to the last episode that the Front Man is actually the police officer’s brother. But if there is anything that seriously messed up our minds, it must have been the old man’s twist. Before I go on, let me warn you, because this video contains the biggest twist of the game, so make sure you have watched the entire series first before continuing aboard!
So, in Episode 6 Gganbu, which we can all agree was the most heartbreaking episode by the way, the old man, Oh Il-Nam, was ‘eliminated’ or was shot. It wasn’t shown on the screen, but we all believed he was indeed shot because every single player who failed to win their games was taken out by the masked guards. We thought it would have been the last episode where we see the old man. He revealed that he was the mastermind behind the game, that he was the masked man shadowed briefly in the episode of the VIPs. Of course, as expected, we were all mindblown. However, most fans who were quick to theorize and look closely during the entire series, or at least those who watched the series for the second time around, have noticed some clues that led to the twist. The old man’s twist being the brains behind all the games was actually foreshadowed throughout the whole series, who would have thought? And in this video, we’ll share with you all the easter eggs that hinted the old man was actually part of the game. But before that, make sure first to hit that subscribe button and notification bell for more updates. Now, let’s begin!
We all know that Gi-Hun, aka Player 456 was the old man’s closest friend, or his Gganbu, as he said himself. The old man himself told Gi-Hun that a gganbu should always be willing to sacrifice his marbles to his other gganbu. That was actually one of the factors that made it all the more heartbreaking to watch. Of all the episodes that showed the old man’s vulnerability, this might be the toughest to bear, as the old man deliberately sacrificed winning in order for Gi-Hun to survive.
This is perhaps the most glaring clue that Il-nam is not as helpless as he seems. As revealed by his strategy for winning against a much stronger team, he is practically a master of tug of war. While Il-nam’s excuse of having played the game frequently as a child is believable, this actually reveals the extent to which he prepared for taking part in the games. He seemed to have known every game, saying that he has played every single one of them during his childhood. Which is already a nice clue as to how the games were picked by the Squid Game founder.
This perhaps is one of the most obvious clues that even non-focused viewers might not have missed. How Il-nam described the neighborhood setting for the marble game was dismissed by many as the mere ramblings. But as Squid Game’s ending reveals, the setting was an accurate recreation of Il-nam’s old home. This could have been the Front Man’s way of making the marble game even more exciting.
Il-nam’s wide smile throughout the different death games is reflective of his outlook on life, as he explained to Gi-hun. Unlike every other player who is risking their life for the chance to win Squid Game’s 45.6 billion Korean won prize.
This clue rushed by so quickly that very few viewers actually caught it. During episode 5 of Squid Game, police officer Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) infiltrates the Front Man’s inner sanctum. Apart from the fact that Il-nam was not a real player.
