Was Goku actually dead at the ending of dragon ball gt? Was goku a ghost at the end of dragon ball gt? In this video I analyze one of the biggest mysteries in all of dragon ball when it pertains to Goku. Fans have speculated whether or not Goku was dead during the ending of the dragon ball gt series in episode 64.

Dragon Ball GTEpisode 64 "Until We Meet Again" had mysteries discussed for years. After goku defeated omega shenron, mysteries arose! This is another episode of dragon ball z theory. This time we are discussing Dragon Ball GT! A Hero's Legacy was mentioned as well. The world continues through Goku Jr!

ATTENTION ATTENTION!

I am seeing some comments arguing that Goku could have used instant transmission. REMEMBER Goku did NOT use Instant Transmission when he was trapped in Hell and Piccolo got him out. He CLEARLY needed the help of Shenron to get into it again.

Thank you for watching!

He didn't die, he stepped into the grand tour.

I always took it as Goku didn't die, per say, but gave up his life. After seeing all the damage from the Shadow Dragons, most of which he and the Z fighters were responsible for, he sort of became a guardian for the Dragonballs. He took the responsibility to keep the earth and the Dragonballs safe from harm, somewhat becoming immortal (that being the reason he doesn't age as an adult). Even when talking with Shenron, Goku says " I take full responsibility."

The Narrator also states along the lines of "If that evil should ever rise again, there is one who will step out of the shadows and fight in the name of good".

Could Goku be immortal? I mean the dragon balls went inside of Goku at the end of GT.

I want to belief that goku is the guardian of the dragon balls and the earth, so he can prevent people to do evil stuff with the dragon balls.

Take a shot every time he says "dead".

Are you serious? The ending was obviously implying the merge made him immortal.

^ That's an empirical fact.

I believe that Goku had become one with Shenron personally. He didn't die but rather took over the role of Shenron. I see him more as the one who is summoned along with Shenron now. Perhaps this is so that if the Earth ever needed someone to defend it lets say 200 years in the future Goku would be there to help.

i would like to think that he just ascended to like a immortal god level. given that he absorbed the dragon balls i think made him one with shenron thus making him ageless and giving him powers like the ability to fade in and out to watch from the sidelines.

Hah, funny timing. I was only reading this theory from Kanzenshuu just last night. It's definitely interesting stuff.

I like the idea of Goku reaching a transcendent state closer to a God near the end of the series. When Omega Shenron asked him "what are you?" while he was gathering energy for the spirit bomb and none of Omega Shenron's attacks worked on him. He seemed to have ascended to some new realm of existence. So maybe he isn't alive nor dead, he just exists.

Toriyama first revealed that the Saiyans have the same lifespan as normal humans or that they start aging fast when they reach their 80s in an interview in 2009. Dragonball GT ended in 1997. You have to assume that Toei was given that information by Toriyama while GT was in production – I am sure that this was not the case, especially given that Pan (who is just a quarter Saiyan) was made to live over 113 years. My take on GT’s ending is that Goku was healed (not resurrected) by Shenlong and then by becoming his rider and absorbing the dragonballs he became an immortal, eternally youthful being/'phantom' that could live forever in Shenlong’s realm and occasionally appear on Earth.

I don't remember where I heard this one, but I came across an alternate hypothesis stating Goku became a spirit of some sort instead of a physical being. I'm leaning towards the Goku becoming a spirit explanation rather than simply dead or alive.

Interview from the writers :
To be honest, in GT episode 63, just before the final episode, a big change comes over Goku. Those who watched carefully might have noticed, but… In that episode, Goku, who takes Yi Xing Long‘s attack, sinks to the bottom of a deep hole. That is the turning point. Afterward, Goku still continues the battle, but what’s different from before is that he’s cloaked in an aura that won’t let any attack near him.

It might be that he died there, or it might be that he became something else entirely. I’ll leave that decision to the imaginations of everyone who watched. However, the Goku up to that point that everyone knows clearly does not appear after that.

In the world of Dragon Ball, Goku had already died multiple times, and up till then, each time he appeared with a halo over his head. However, I didn’t want to go with the usual concept of, “even when he dies, he comes right back to life”. I wanted the viewers to picture “death” in that way, and feel a sadness close to it in reality. So I had a “change” come over Goku.

And then after that, once he defeats Yi Xing Long and grants the final wish, Goku goes right off with Shenlong and the Dragon Balls, to somewhere that people definitely can’t get to. While wishing that people will be able to get by on their own strength in a world without the Dragon Balls. And Vegeta is the only one who notices where he’s headed.

Except, I personally go ahead and imagine… that Goku might unexpectedly show up, just at Chi-Chi’s, from time to time. Yes, unexpectedly….

Well I always assumed that when Elder Kai gave him his life he also got the rest of his living years.

So it’s heavily implied that he became Kami. You have to watch a hero’s legacy. Goku jr prayed to Kami to help him with his wish over the 4 Star ball. Goku then appears and tells him that he needs all 7. Goku is showing the idea that God is everywhere. Then he heals pan.
