How Does Swimming Change Your Body?

Показать описание
Every body is different, but they are similar in one way. Our bodies are always changing, for better or worse.

Of course, swimming burns calories. Being in the water burns more calories than being on land. The stronger the effort and/or the longer the workout, the more calories you will burn. However, that doesn't necessarily mean you're burning fat.

Some of you told us that swimming actually makes you gain fat because it increases your appetite and you consume more calories from highly processed foods. Some said that swimming makes you sleep better. Sleep quality is highly associated with weight changes. Remember how we talked about stress levels in our last Phelps video? High stress levels tell your body that you are in danger and if they stay high, some bodies responds by storing fat even at the cellular level

I have lost around 28 Kg swimming 5 times a week. ---- feeling very hungry after swimming is a great opportunity to fuel your body with the right food, which leads to feeling less "hungry" in the long run. Choose your carbs wisely, avoid the white stuff, cut all those processed foods. if you cant cook it at home dont eat it! Increase your water intake, and sleep longer, if you can add weight training 2 times a week, and most importantly --- swim at least 5 times a week for 45 mins to 1 hour.

I used to think going too long without eating while you're extremely hungry would damage my body. Then I read about ghrelin, leptin, insulin, and glucagon, and I realized hunger is just a hormonal situation. It has little to do with actual need for food, for someone who has food readily available at any time. Once I realized that, I started regarding the sensation of hunger as an indication that I was losing weight, and the longer I could ride that feeling, the more weight I would lose, especially going to bed hungry.
So I swam every day, and pushed my first meal later and later, and made my last meal earlier and earlier, and some days I worked out at the gym too. I lost 35 lbs in a few months by working out and allowing myself to feel hungry. I never once counted calories, but I did decrease my carbs and decreased my meal size from what I had been eating. I've kept off most of the weight in the ensuing years, because I basically changed my relationship with food.

Started back after 11 years....already 69 years old...having a hard time doing a full lap without stopping for awhile. Listening to my body, and feeling that "slow and steady wins the race." Hoping that brushing up on form, getting tips for stamina when breathing, I am hopeful that I will get back to where I was. Yesterday, after intermittent fasting for 21 hours, I got into the pool, did one lap and got out. Could not catch my breath and my body was telling me to stop. Learning lessons all the time.

Wise words! treat your body like a science experiment - I have been practising it for last few years, and it is indeed the case! still learning everyday how to respond more congruently to the body's needs and signals :)

I finally see muscle on my body thanks to swimming.
I don’t eat enough, which I’m certainly working on. I joined the swim time for the first time, and of course came back starving. A motivation to eat more
While it’s not huge, I can see shoulder muscles on myself and can feel myself getting stronger in others. It makes me want to be healthier
I’ve never enjoyed exercise before swimming

I think its a combination of proper food intake and nutrition, with intense training..when I swimming slow, I don't burn much, unlike when I mix the training with sprints, fly, etc.. the speedy sessions I think required to help losing weight. I also like what is called "muscles confusion" when I decide to change the stroke with out thinking about it in advance, I sort of surprise my body with what stroke I'm gonna do next 😅 .
I wish if you can do something detailed on the daily nutritions requiremed, the best timings of the meal, specially early morning and late evening sessions.

Being following you guys and learning from you for 18 months, and I have to say that I loved the videos and it's contents, its clear and easy to understand.

Hopping to join you guys in one of your training camps soon.

Thanks a million for the great stuff and efforts.🤗🤗

Don't scapegoat carbohydrates for weight-gain. (Many go low-carbohydrate, but it's misguided.)
Also, you can't add weight if you're taking in less calories than you're consuming. These are two common misperceptions.

People here who say that it doesn't work don't understand physiology. If your exercise causes you to have a Zone 2 heart rate your body will be burning fat the entire time as its fuel. If you work out harder forcing your heart rate up to Zone 3 or Zone 4 rates, your body switches over to burning glucose in your blood stream. That's why in the video he said the college swimmer wasn't losing fat. If you keep your heart rate at Zone 2 for an hour, you will burn at least 500 calories of fat.
I started swimming every other day in February. I went from size 36 pants and 200 pounds down to size 31 and 155 pounds. I have abs, shoulder, back and chest muscles. My body looks as good as it did in my twenties now, and I'm 64. So now that my fat is gone, while I'll still swim for an hour every other day at Zone 2 rates, now on the off days I can lift or swim sprints to begin really building up muscle.

When i was a teen, frolicking in the water made me ravenous. Now i am in my 6th decade, an hour in the water I wasn’t dying of hunger afterwards. I ate 3 hours before pool time. I try my best not to eat sugary food or simple starch. It could also be age related slower metabolism. I was surprised that I wasn’t very hungry now that I started pool time.
