Determining the volume of rectangular pyramid

👉 Learn how to find the volume and the surface area of a pyramid. A pyramid is a 3-dimensional object having a polygon as its base and triangular surfaces converging at a single point called its apex. A pyramid derives its name from the shape of its base, i.e. a pyramid with a triangular base is called a triangular pyramid while a pyramid with a square base is called square pyramid, etc.

The volume of a pyramid is given by one-third the area of its base multiplied by its height (the distance between its base and the apex). While the total surface area of a pyramid is given by the sum of the areas of all the plane shapes making up the pyramid.

through out this whole video I though " wait what, not trying to be rude but do you have to do the square root? " because how my 7th grade teacher taught me the formula V= 1/3 Bh, and for the shortcut just divide by 3 on one of them and then multiply all of them and that's how you get your answer. It baffles me that in the future i might need to find the square root of something.

you know you can just estimate the square root? you know its going to be 13. something as the square root of 196 is 14 and the square root of 169 is 13. 180 is closest to 13 so you know its going to be 13.4 which would be fine for any student to use. They don't need a calculator todo this. My grade 8s can do this.
