Hadn't planned on playing through Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin until I checked out the demo on Switch. Really glad I did because I ended up loving this. It isn't the best JRPG you'll play, but it's a strong re-framing of the classic Monster Hunter formula with turn based combat deep and engaging enough to go the distance. I really enjoyed it, and I recommend it.

I actually ended up getting this on the switch and I didn't experience performance issues, at least not any that I noticed without looking really hard. What separate Stories 2 and pokemon is monster movements. In stories, their moves mirror their actual main line counterpart moves. Giving it a believable and living vibe. For example, that Anjanath kinship is actually an exaggerated version of his move in world. While pokemon animate moves only, combined with their default attack animation. That's why you see scorbunny kicking, but the move it use is something completely different. With the amount of monsters in stories 2 tho, i'm surprised that capcom even do that. It's been a decade and game freak still refuse to do this.

The 3DS game is my first Monster Hunter experience ever.
I haven't played JRPG and/or Turn Based Strategy games before (only 1-2 hours) but MH Stories 1 hooked me like no other game in the genre.
It's just FUN! 😊
