Amazing Aerial Photography GPS Quad!

The H109S is the complete package! In this standard edition you get everything you need to shoot stunning aerial pictures and video.

I've had this quad for a month or so testing everything out and making sure I got everything working correctly before I decided to make a video review to show everyone. I did have initial problems with the included 1-Axis Gimbal but the customer service at MiFly Drone was incredible, they took care of the problem in a proper manner and got me back in the air shooting video.

When I received min all of the firmware was out of date besides the firmware that was on the FC (Flight Controller). I had to upgrade the firmware on the TX (Controller) because it had the firmware that was used for flying one of Hubsan's planes on it and then the RX also had to be updated. I have included a picture of my screen displaying the firmware versions listed at the bottom. Also to access this screen the manual tells you to just hold the "Enter" button and as you will quickly find out that does not work. What you have to do is hold down the "Left Throttle" stick and then hit the enter key and then that will open up your options menu and upon opening that menu if you do not see "Show Version" at the bottom and instead see an option that says "Aircraft: Plane" then you will also need to update your TX.

The 1-Axis gimbal has a nice smooth movement, I've not dealt with any gimbals other than the direct mounted ones but this one has some noise with the movement so I am not sure if they all sound this way or not. The 1080p Camera just plugs in and plays easily, be careful when inserting it into the camera holder... The left arm of that holder is way too fragile and can be broken easily. After you have it set in and plugged in then just turn it on and power everything up and you will begin receiving video feed. I like that the camera records sound too, it's a personal preference for sure but I enjoy hearing the props spin the air. I really wished there was a way I could hear that from the ground by plugging in an earbud into the jack on the controller, I tried that and it didn't do anything. I might have to look into some online solutions for that.

You can take off from the ground in a few ways. You can keep it in altitude mode and you will have more lift power to get off the ground quickly, use the GPS mode to slowly lift off or you can flip GPS on and then flip the RTH switch on and it will auto pop up off the ground. If you do the RTH trick be aware that nothing is above your quad and you also have to quickly flip the switch back off once it gets in the air because the RTH system automatically takes the quad up to about 60ft when switched on.

The video and pictures turned out very satisfactory for me. I balanced all the included props first and also stuck some earplugs inside the grommets that are holding your gimbal together. I had read on an rcgroup forum that people were doing that and it help reduced camera vibration. Everything function as I would have expected in the air, I haven't had any anomaly yet. The only place I was able to test at the time was around my Sub-Division and there is all kinds of electric lines and wifi signals bouncing around, so with all that interference it still performed very well.

The parachute system is neat. It definitely won't save you from damage but it will slow the descent and keep the fall from completely destroying the quad. I ran a hover test with the parachute on and it flew for 20 mins, the voltage alarm started beeping at I believe 10.8-10.7v and the quad will failsafe and begin to land itself once the battery reaches 10.2-10.3v. So be aware of those numbers and where your quad is in relation to the necessary time it will take to bring it back home.

Overall I have had a blast with this AP Quad; it works wonderfully and has a really nice controller to boot

HBVash... In the times you've flown this, have you very often experienced VRS (Prop Wash) while descending from up very high?
Also, in the time you've had this, have you yet experienced any electronic issues? Like the quad suddenly doing something you didn't input it to do?

Thanks Sir.

From what I have seen so far in this video, the one really annoying thing about this TX is, There aren't any 1 push switches to go into video or camera modes. It would appear that you have to hold the switches down until it changes modes from video to camera mode and vise versa. Look how long it took him to switch between the 2 modes! I firmly believe that the h501s is much better.

Listen to how loud this is!

IMHO, this gimble is next to useless in its current configuration. Big deal, you can move the camera up and down electronically. Why didn't they make it self stabilizing (Always holding level)? I believe this is the only reason they made this quad bigger. To support this added weight. Yes, in a most small way this does make it a little more convenient. Instead of coming back to change the up/down angle of the camera. But, I don't believe the trade off is worth it. The "extra" large size (Appears to be at least 1/3 larger, almost double, size than the h501s) makes it a "Must Register With FAA". I, personally would like if they made the weight less, .Therefore not having to register it. I am getting real tired of the lame excuses the government uses just to get a few more dollars. Let's get real. If someone is planning to NOT follow the rules and use this outside of the rules and regulations, then I really don't think they will be registering. The only people that the government will get money from is, Of course, us law abiding honest citizens. The ones that the FAA doesn't really have to worry about. Just like guns. If you outlaw guns, then only outlaws will have them. AND, if they never register them, then there is no way to identify the gun that did it.

Sorry, kinda got off the subject.

My final opinion of this copter is, buy the h501s, I guarantee you won't be disappointed This transmitter is by no means better than the h501s or the so-called h501s advanced version. Actually it is damn near the same transmitter as the h501s advanced version. Just a different way to do things. Software change. This means a firmware change. Firmware is just software than changes the commands in the processor. It may or may not open up functions not available in the older firmware. Another consideration is, of course, the price difference. Appr. $355.00 for this and $225.00 for the h501s. Which, BTW, may just have one more function this one doesn't, follow me mode. At least I didn't hear any mention of this mode in this video.

I always thought that products should be getting better, not just bigger or the same.

A little over 439ft is a little hi don't you think!?
I'm hoping you are registered and follow all FAA rules? Just curious I see a lot of folks abusing these altitude restrictions. It's all fun until someone kills someone then we can kiss this hobby goodbye. Keep them under 400ft people! It's not a joke FAA watches these videos I can tell you this first hand because I did it once! And I got a certified letter in the mail wanting to no why I feel it's ok to do this. They pull videos of YouTube and will use them against you in court. Trust me!!! So I'd be thinking twice when putting these long range flights and high altitude videos on YouTube or you'll eventually be hearing from FAA. I'm truly not trying to be a butt head I'm just trying to save you all the hassle and save this hobby for all to enjoy.

BE CAREFUL BUYING THIS COPTER. MOTHERBOARD QUALITY CONTROL PROBLEMS. THE COPTER WILL NOT BIND TO TRANSMITTER. TRY A PHANTOM INSTEAD
