As always preparing for your end skills test AM2, AM2S or AM2E requires time testing at college and in industry plus on-site experience of installing electrical circuits in order to pass your exam. This short video will help you remember to validate your test results after testing your ring final circuit by doing the calculations for R1 + RN and R1 + R2 during your end point assessment AM2 or AM2S.

It is important to segregate band 1 and band 2 voltages or you could state this as segregation of extra low voltage and low voltage.

This video has been designed to go on the YouTube shelf as a short video in portrait mode.

Videos are training aids for City and Guilds (C and G) and EAL courses Level 1, 2 and 3.

You can follow me day by day on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok lookout for "GSH Electrical”.

You are not required to do r1+rn on the Am2. Why do you need to validate it?

I only had to validate my r1+r2 in the assessment

What is the reason for testing between R1 and RN? The schedule of test results only asks for R1+R2

Why divide by 4? Is that the mm of cable used on the circuit being tested?

This doesn’t take into consideration a smaller cpc, if the cpc is smaller than the line n neutral then you need to add 0.94 before the calculation on R1+R2/4

This is really useful now however in the next two years no one will know how to do this because all our kids will use silly apps and phones to get them through life.

Not forgetting BIDMAS and putting brackets around the r+r as a reminder.
If not using scientific calculator ensure you press the = BEFORE dividing by 4....
