I can’t agree with you on this one. My first taste of alcohol was Newcastle Brown Ale. I was five. My uncle, who lived with us, would each evening get a couple of bottles from the off licence, on his way back from walking his dog. I always pestered him for a sip and he eventually gave in, thinking the taste would repel me. But I LOVED it! I didn’t like the “funny feeling” it gave me, but I did like the taste.
I always enjoyed the taste of alcohol; I loved Guinness and also dry white wine. Not everyone is “deluding themselves” when they say they enjoy the taste.

A fond memory I have of being on penthouse floor of guinness factory dublin. Everyone on tour was given a free one at end of tour. A few people didn't like it so they discarded their free guinness ticket. Their loss... I had myself 3 free pints in no time. Ha, That's who I was then and I don't think I would change that.. Fast forward 20 years.. a year and a half sober.. and I'm glad I have reframed my mindset. Life is Grand.

Its so true. I use drink for the effect. I don't even like the taste of it. Day 5

I'm almost 2 years without a drink and Kevin has been a massive help in that (your videos, but also a short stint of your coaching in 2019). I have to say though, this taste argument is to my mind the weakest argument against drinking. 1. There are many things that taste bad in its pure form. Take chocolate: who fancies eating raw cocoa beans? Pepper? Salt? Onions? 2. What's wrong with acquired taste? Life has so many things to offer and some will require getting over a hump before you learn to enjoy the pleasures. 3. Looking at the almost infinite amount of alcoholic drinks (take wine alone!) and tastes that people develop, it's somewhat simple to state that people tell themselves what they like and to wave it off as a rationalization. Since I stopped drinking I grew to dislike the smell of alcohol and especialy white wine. However, I do still consider a cold, freshly tapped beer or a slightly chilled red wine very appealing and not just because of the alcohol. I miss the taste. And for me that's OK.

True and I can't imagine buying non-alcoholic beer for the taste.

I’ve not drank for getting on for 2 years now but have the occasional 0.0 lager because I do actually enjoy it as a drink. The good thing now is I can have 1 and be satisfied and it doesn’t turn in to 10. It’s great 👍

Well done. Alcopops have a lot to answer for as well. I used to convince myself I was a whisky " connosseur " all the while having to force the stuff down.

I certainly always liked beer. I can remember the first time I tried it. I was probably 8 on the beach and my dad let me try his Boston Lager...hands down the best tasting thing Ive ever had or can remember having. Saying that Im over a year sober and really need to be for more years.

I never liked the taste. I would tell people if I wanted something for taste I'd take a coke. I drank for the buzz.

I would drink shots. So you don't taste it. Try sipping on neat vodka or tequila.

I hated that I found out about "flavored alcohol". That's what snagged me in. The drinks were delicious, but in the end, it still was just a cover up to get me to drink more, and more, and more. It scared me how much I LOVED mixing drinks for my taste once I got to the bottom of the bottle. "HOW did I drink that much that fast?" 😱

I have always liked the taste of wine, never had to 'force' myself to like that. But other alcohol...yes.

The vast majority of alcoholic drinks dont taste good at all. About the only drink that tasted good to me was the Ceasar- but the other 99.9 percent of boozy drinks out there don't taste good at all. I always had to work past the shitty taste to get that buzz, and the drunker I got the easier they would be to ingest.
