Having driven this route multiple times in gas cars over the years, I was so excited to drive from Toronto, Canada to Delray Beach in South Florida. This would be my longest EV road trip to date, but luckily I was in my Model Y with full access to the Supercharger network.
With energy consumption hovering around 300 wh/mi near 75 mph, the days settled into a rhythm of 2 hours of driving (150 mi) and 20 minutes of charging at V3 Supercharger locations. I tried to arrive at each charging stop with around 10% SoC remaining, but it was not always possible to do so because of larger gaps between stops, especially in Georgia. But despite traveling on a weekend in August, we encountered no charging congestion or wait times.
The Supercharger network has come a long way over the past decade. This trip was a lot easier than I expected. A gas car could have probably saved an hour of driving during each of my 2 days, but as I said in the video I also appreciated breaks from driving. A more efficient EV (or one with a faster charging curve) would have closed this gap even further.
My only complaint about the Supercharger network is that some locations still have poor amenities compared to gas stations. I'm talking to you, Brunswick, GA. :)
