Just think of those that have no support. They have enough on their plate. It is cruel care. Do not let advantage plans take over your lives. But I do understand the alleged cost savings. Be in charge of you!

The reason hospitals admit observation is there are specific criteria to be met. If you go in with chest or abdominal pain for example and nothing is showing up positive on tests (c/p with normal ekg and troponin level which indicate you are not having an MI ‘heart attack’ or nothing on cat scan for the and pain) then you are Observation.
If we see ischemic changes in ekg, positive troponins we would upgrade you to inpatient. If the CT scan showed bowel obstruction for example.. also inpatient.
Most scheduled knee and hip surgery in the hospital is observation and most people are discharged the day after surgery..home with home care therapy.

Can anyone help me? My dad had a long term care policy where he had $200 taken out of his check every month for 30 YEARS! Now that he has passed, my mom called the company for help to pay her $24, 000 nursing home bill and they said they cant because the person in the nursing home needed to be there for 90 days or more for them to pay. My mom said that she never knew that. It might have been one of those things in fine print! Anything we can do ?

Typical American healthcare- you pay and pay very expensive premiums, and then when you need it, it's not there because some accountant says "no".
What a system.
