Today marks the one-year anniversary of the devastating Lahaina fire on Maui, Hawaii. A permanent mark in our hearts and in history. This video captures powerful aerial footage of the affected areas, showing both the extent of the damage and current status of the rebuilding process. I often get asked about the progress of rebuilding Lahaina, and I believe the best way to show it is visually. As we reflect on this tragic event, let us remember those who were impacted and continue to rebuild.

So sad so many people lost their lives and survivors lost their property. It’s all just about cleared away now and slowly will be rebuilt. I saw alittle traffic on the highway. Thanks for sharing this. This is truly amazing to see. bring on episode 82

I certainly appreciate this video. We had just visited Lahaina two months before this devastating fire and have been trying to keep tabs on how things are going there. I was so glad you did the close-up on the Banyan tree because I've been wondering how it has been coming along. So thank you so much for this video!!! Continuing to pray for all. Such devastation

I've been watching this on the news today and it rips my heart out. I volunteer with Habitat for Humanity every week and it makes me want to go over there and just start helping them rebuild. I'd be happy to flippin' sleep in a tent and eat peanut butter sandwiches and cereal just to swing hammers with them and rebuild. I'm still learning my carpentry but I do excel in the dumb muscle category and would love to help them bounce back from all this sadness. Just because it is not in the news cycle anymore, we can't forget these people.

Man breaks my heart to see that. I spent so many years walking those areas in the video. The remembrance of the life along those streets and the atmosphere that is now forever gone 😢

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Ahhh, what a shame we are seeing this because of the fire last year that took so many lives and homes, and livelihoods of so very many. You are not forgotten. I have a photo of me in about 1968 with my carnival shirt on standing near the Carthaginian. It was my first trip without parents but with a girlfriend. My dear friend worked at airport where we met so many years ago. Many memories of HKP, the bar, the planes, the people, Front Street. I’d been there the October before, 2022 to stay 2 days with my Maui girlfriend. We ate lunch upstairs on front Street…I think about majestic Fleetwood Bldg. and the old places there in my day. Was flying into OGG from the mainland. Fleetwood himself on board…locals like June Sarkin and the other Maui people…Earl Smith, the McKelvey’s, etc…gone, but not forgotten. A lost era for me, but happy memories…oh, picking Mangos with Luane near Puamana bringing back to HNL to make Mango Chutney! A hui hou all.
