Increasing consumption of ultra-processed foods and likely impact on human health: evidence from Brazil

I mostly have been eating whole foods now for 3 years. Mostly stick to the 80/20 rule (be good 80% of the time and allow yourself 20% in slip ups -like family/friend outings or other events). Its more time consuming and more expensive in some ways and cheaper in others, but I will never go back. It has made a huge difference in my life.

Duh. I'm getting tired of these rhetorical question titles. Obviously clickbait. A better choice would be "The Detrimental Effects of Ultra-Processed Foods", but y'know, DNews.

Eat whatever you want. If you like what it tastes like, eat it.

Eating healthy is neither that expensive nor that difficult. It just takes a bit of effort, but it is well worth it.

I think the role of our sedentary modern lifestyle coupled with the availability of ultra processed foods is the real culprit

When minimum wage is 7.35 an hour all you can afford is Ramen noodles.  When cooking is no longer taught in schools the only meal you can make is a PB&J.

Got it backwards, artificial sweeteners aren't linked to cancer, actual sugar clearly is.

Who else hates it when people ask for likes in the comments, like if you agree.

Healthy foods tend to be way more expensive. That's one of the biggest reason why I have trouble eating better.

I love traveling to other countries because in most places they don't have so many ultra processed foods. My friend traveled with me and was shocked that the bacon and orange juice tasted different. I told him to Google hour bacon and orange juice are allowed to be processed in the US. He was shocked at what he found.

telling people to eat healthy food that tastes like crap
and takes longer to make is why this is still a problem.

people don't want to lose convenience or enjoyment.

if you are unable to find an equal substitute, people wont change or budge in the slightest.

They say it's bad because of the high amounts of sugar and sodium in many ultra processed food. And they contain hydrogenated oils or vegetable oils which are bad for us.

If you give up or reduce expensive animal products and do your research it's possible to have a very nutritious diet below the poverty line but what poor person has time or energy for that? How many people are even taught proper research skills, or a wide range of cooking skills these days? Not to mention addictive foods and marketing, no wonder malnutrition and obesity are increasingly going hand in hand.
