A lawyer recommended to me to stop using and/or getting rewards cards after I was nearly victim of an identity theft ring (my soc sec # was one digit off from what they had). Now that it’s been like 10 years, I don’t get junk mail and a lot fewer sales phone calls. In one store you get 20% off in the morning, the card is only 10% off, so it’s a win win not having my identity stored in their rewards program.
Apparently every time you use your card the company that gives the discounts then sells your info as”current” to advertising companies, so the store actually makes more money off your purchase than you get as “discounts “ from them. It’s really pure evil genius in my opinion.
