Fedora 36 Released! And it is SERIOUS Competition to Ubuntu! (2022)

Fedora 36 is out and it is packed with fantastic new features. We get the flashy new gnome 42 with its new GTK 4 apps and stunningly gorgeous dark mode. We get Linux kernel 5 .17 which brings big improvements for AMD hardware. Then we get a set of updated apps that will be driving a fresh new experience for Fedora users.

This update is a major one that will be supported for the next 13 months. I installed Fedora 36 as soon as it came out and I'm impressed with this release. The direction that Fedora is headed in, it's making Fedora the leading choice for a Linux distribution.

My favourite operating system has got a new release on May 10! How can't I forget that day! I use it as my daily driver and its the best! I tried out a lot distros, and Fedora came onto the first place. It's excellent, whether its packages, or its gnome... everything's excellent. The best distro ever. Right now, I was ricing it just then I got your notification. Yeah, it ships GNOME 42, Linux kernel 5.17, and all packages vanilla and newest. Its on cutting edge. Everything is vanilla (as I mentioned), whether it's any of it's spins, GNOME, KDE, XFCE etc. (and also i3). So, IMO its the best distro.

You recorded with ssr? I heard that gnome 42 has its own screenrecorder utility. Does not work or there is none? Also, last time I checked ssr didn't work in wayland, were you using xorg?

Installed fedora 36 right after it came out on my Microsoft surface. It's buttersmooth. Only the camera isn't working, but there is a workaround.

Also as much as I respect the Fedora team trying to preserve the stock GNOME look, I feel that the minimize and maximize buttons is a MUST because new users will be confused why it’s not there

PS: I am aware you can enable it through gnome tweaks tool

The only thing that annoys me on Fedora is the slowness of DNF.
The possible "fixes" bring other issues.

Interesting, great content, and I used to love Fedora But Fedora 34 update just simply broke Texlive and there were zero cares out there other than just wait for 35. Likely won't come back to Fedora anything since that break and forget from an update was not the only one and just frustrating.

I don't think Ubuntu is an alternative for Fedora (for desktops). Mint could be. Ubuntu and Debian for servers only.

Looks like you forgot to change the locale to "English (India)" while installing :)
Also, version numbers are just integers strung together with the dot as a delimiter and not actual fractional numbers, so each part is read as a whole number. For example, "5.17" is read as "five point seventeen", not "five point one seven". In fact, in the versioning context, 5.17 is newer than 5.2, for example.
