Comparing 4 plasma TV, 2 DLP and an LCD for power consumption. We all know plasma are pigs, but not as much as you would think!

I have a Panasonic room heater also known as my plasma tv. 500 watts and you can dry socks on top of it. still going strong after 12 years

Excellent video. Quite an eye opener! So that means our TV is rated at 137 watts so it must be using around that figure. Really love your videos and keep up the great work.

Are those numbers close to the power consumption shown on the back of the sets? I have a pair of Toshiba 32" LCD sets, the older one uses CCFLs and draws 117W and the newer one uses LEDs and draws only 51W, but that's according to the stickers on the back of them. Unfortunately I don't have a meter right now to see how accurate those numbers are. Great video, thanks for sharing this comparison.

The L.G did really well in saving mode.
I think 400 watts is just mad, something is just drinking the juice.
I dont think you will be stuck for a tv lol :-D.
.
I wonder if the power factor correction (if they have any) is better in some sets, i know p.c power supplys have active p.f.c. more these days.
The cheaper pc supplys of the past had a series choke, i presume to countermand the resivour capacitor.
Ive never really looked too close at the power factor correction side, most of the stuff i tinker with eather has none or it works and doesnt need to be repaired.

A plasma set is not really too much out of the line in power consumption as a comparably sized lcd? I have always believed that a plama tv was way worse than that.

What uses less electricity, plasma tv’s or LED tv’s?

Nice comparison. I have some shop lights made from broken LCD TVs and I've removed everything except the power supply and backlight inverter. I'm guessing it draws less power than if the Light was still a TV and working. A guy on here called Grant's pass TV repair did this hack and he said the "TV" light draws about 100 watts but I'm guessing the amount of power used would depend on the size of the screen and how much of the original circuits are intact. in this case just the power supply/inverter circuits.

13:15 I have an XBOX 360 power brick and it says it uses maybe 250 watts. At the time I was using it to power my Polaroid LCD-2000 TV.

I prefer to stay away from DLP TVs. more moving parts to fail. A buddy of mine had one, the same bud who gave me the polaroid TV. I would have taken it if they were gonna throw it out but at the time I didn't have the room for it.

Hmmm, interesting idea.  I've tested refrigerators, freezers, AC window units, fans, heaters and junk like that.  I also tested my camper line for draw.  I used a clamp on meter for that stuff (it has a plug adaptor).  I consider most electronics as trivial, unlike old tube color TV sets were.  Most draw less than an amp.  The KWH meter on my house turns like a roulette wheel, we use a lot electricity.  I have not played with a watt meter in a long time,  you inspired my to check it out.  My snack bar used a lot of electriciy back in the day.  It had a 3 ton AC, Bunn coffee maker, at least seven refrigerators, two microwaves, vending machines,  drink machines, toasters, hot dogger, etc., a "small stand", at Revco warehouse in Cleveland - as seen in my 1983 snack bar vid.  btw, I made that vid with my first video camera / portable VCR, a Konica (Sharp w/saticon) and Hitachi VCR as seen in the vid.  I bet that snack bar had a huge electric bill, but Revco covered it, since I took care of al the employees there!  Don
