What's your thoughts about newer TVs VS older models?

I have two large plasmas (LGs) - and yeah, they are built to last - and the picture quality still looks great and I can guarantee you they'll outlast the junk being manufactured today. Bit heavy, maybe not nearly as thin - but I like the years I've gotten out of these AND they're still going strong - one after abut 8 years. Paid $100 each USED. Money VERY well spent! Good review!

I've basically come to a point that I don't care about new tech. The stuff from 5-10 years ago has become so cheap, high quality and abbundant, that you are a fool to spend premium on the new stuff.
For example I got a 50" plasma with no burn-in for 75 bucks, a 2009 MacMini for 25 bucks, and a top of the line Onkyo AV receiver 7x200W for 100 bucks. Blu Rays at goodwill are like 1-2 bucks. A 2015 MacBook Pro is 250 bucks. Every item functions perfectly fine today, and combined they give a really nice experience. The dude I bought the plasma from was really impressed by the plasma he was selling: he used it 10 year without proper setup and looked at a dull image all those years. I tweaked the contrast, enabled full colour gamut, and popped in Lego Batman, and he was seriously stunned. Same with clothes. I get everything at thrift stores nowadays. There is enough used stuff for everybody and Red sea terror should deliver 0 harm to world economy. We live in abbundance of everything. Now lets put us what we already have to good use, and stop making more new crap quality junk.

I still have a Fugitsu plasma vision W 50in that works perfectly it’s just gorgeous. I believe it was one of the first plasma TV’s ever made. TV cost something like $10k when it was new. I got a Q80B 85in a few months ago and it is just a gorgeous powerhouse of a TV I love watching it it’s good at everything and gets beautifull bright. I’ve had 3 Samsung LEDs over the years and have had just great luck with them. I still have a 55in Samsung led from 2010 one of the first models ever made it’s not even a smart tv. Still using it almost daily 13 years later kids play games and watch movies on it and it still looks great and gets really bright. The plasma days were such an exciting time for TV’s I’ve had a few plasma’s come and go but the fugitsu is a straight relic a real gem

I want to see a 4K plasma with hdmi 2.1 and a modern processor with modern software, it would be interesting to see how it performs vs QLED and even OLED.

My Panasonic Virea plasma still looks better than anything I've seen for sale in the United States. Zero motion blurr, is a must for me.

I had a mid-range (or lower?) Panasonic S60 plasma that I adored. It had some unfortunate rainbow artifacting when I turned my head or blinked rapidly, but I mostly got used to it. The motion clarity was great though, and was as close to a CRT as I’ve seen. Unfortunately I don’t have it anymore. I’m sure it gets killed by OLED with contrast but I haven’t seen a TV get as good motion, especially with scrolling images/content.

Overall, the QLED looks better to me but there were parts where I preferred the plasma. I still have my 2007 model year 42 inch Panasonic 1080p plasma in the spare room and continue to be impressed with how well it has held up. It cost just as much as my current 75" Samsung LED TV that I have in the living room!

I still watch a (15 y.o.) 65" Panasonic Plasma TV. It is 240 Hz, so there is no banding and fast movement is fluid. The picture is still great. ARC no longer provides audio, but Toslink is acceptable. I will hold off on buying a new tv for as long as possible.

I have a 2013 48" Samsung 1080p Plasma in my bedroom with a Roku Ultra connected, love it!

I have that same Samsung Plasma in my garage now. Was my main TV for 10 years until I got my LG B8 OLED tv 3 years ago. I left that plasma on almost all day everyday and something was always playing it. Never died out or nothing compared to other tv in my house that aren’t my OLED. Built to last it does.

Anyone else remember the expression "look at those inky blacks?" Still rocking a 51" Samsung F8500 plasma. I considered replacing it with a Bravia 8 but was uncertain on whether the Sony would be better for SDR content, which is most of what we watch.

I have an LG Plasma 50" that I bought in 2011. Lately, I had problems with it. So, I've decided to go Oled (Samsung 55"). Big mistake! Even though the colors are more vivid and richer on the Oled, the image itself looks unnatural. It’s as if the TV artificially painted the colors on the image (sorry, I don't have the right words to describe it). In short, it's hideously ugly. It doesn't have the warmth and the organic feel of the plasma. I sent back the Oled two days after receving it and called a repair shop for the plasma in hope they're gonna be able to fix it. BTW, good video. Thanks!

Well lets be fair here. This plasma was likely heavily used which causes a reduced brightness (that's prob why the bright highlights arent quite what you were wanting). The motion looks more juttery not because its worse, but because plasma tv's are an impluse technology therefore they strobe very fast to produce less unwatned motion blur (ghosting) for use cases like gaming. The reason the QLED LCD tv looks to have smoother motion is simply due to the sample and hold tech thats used in modern displays that produces unwanted motion blur (because of image persistance in the eye). And the banding problem is a non issue because almost all SDR content is 8 bit anyway not 10 bit, so the 10 bit panel on the QLED will only really help in cases where the content was designed with 10 bit color (such as HDR). So the only real wins for the QLED are HDR support, and higher brightness (when viewed from a content perspective at least because they are more effecient in power consumption and are much lighter). Also the plasma is going to look worse in a well lit room due to the grey glass with no polarzier, therefore the light from the room can wash out the blacks. And both tv's were not calibrated in this comparison as you can tell because the white points are completely different. This can change a lot of the image and isnt due to the Plasma producing worse colors, but is due to the settings on the tv not being set the same way as the QLED lcd.

Plasma cannot be beat by any led TV IMO. My 12 year old LG 60" plasma has worked perfectly since new....zero problems. I just bought a new 50"led uhd 4k for another room, and the plasma has a much better picture

My 2008 Vizio 42" plasma is still going strong. I normally watch it in a darkened room and looks really good.

I remember watching Tron two on a plasma and the picture quality was absolutely unbelievable. At the moment. I have an $8000 Samsung LCD and I still reckon the plasma depending on the movie is a lot better back in the day. I was told that pioneer were the best, but I never had one. I always had a Japanese panel Panasonic And I probably had five Panasonic over the years.

i have an LG 51 inch plasma that i worked out i bought in 2011 and its still going strong. Colours are so much more vibrant that LCD's not looking forward to having to replace it.

And now, we have OLEDs which claim to be the successor to the plasma, but they are actually not. Back in the day, you’re able to purchase a plasma TV for £399 (which is around $299) while the OLED with the same size costs around £1200, which is making people cry. Who wants a PDP comeback?
