Star Trek Discovery's second season is at an end. Did the show mend the flaws of season 1 or just make them worse?

My problem was Burnham crying in literally EVERY episode (count em, I promise) and everything seemingly revolving around her. Trek has always been a crew show, so I find that frustrating. People also do a lot of doing, without thinking, which is very anti-Star Trek for me.

Yeah, I humbly disagree with making the season shorter. If anything, I think Discovery would benefit from longer seasons that allow us to explore the crew more and have a little. Maybe not 26 episodes, but at least 18-20.

I'm also not as crazy about the finale or Airiam's death.

However, I will say that I absolutely agree with your sentiment on Discovery feeling more comfortable in its own skin. The episodes also had a classic charm to them. Yeah... they were simply new takes on old plots, but Discovery had that "think your way out" mentality that I felt Enterprise and even Voyager lacked at times.

While I do agree with almost everything you said, especially concerning the production values, I do have a major problem with the extreme moments of, well, stupid. One glaring example was the Admiral's death. Why did they not pull the handle with five minutes to spare and beam her out? Of course they could have saved Airiam by simply beaming her aboard instead of watching her die but that would have spoiled a great shot, right? But for me, the real stupid is the number of times that we were presented with situations where time was absolutely crucial and past running out. Yet, there was always time for one more bloated emotional soul wrenching monologue or dialog. There was a lot of "screw those people dying we have some stuff to work through" moments.

I have really really tried to like this show, and in many ways I have. I just wish there were fewer complete lack of common sense moments.

I also very much agree that Anson Mount all but saved the show and that Pike needs a show of his very on.

Surprised you didn't mention Pikes vision of his future. great vid none the less

Great review. Makes a nice change from the likes of nerdrotic who seem desperate to find anything they can to dump on it.

huh; well, thanks for that, I think I'll have to go catch up and watch s2 now.

S1 was better than it had right to, but the flaws were so many and so early on, the whole rest of the season felt somehow tarnished; if they'd just done the first ep or two differently, I think the whole season would've felt so much better. The Klingons were still odd enough to throw me off, but I'll lay that at my feat and not the show... its good for them to take risks with such beloved spheres.

So S2 is that good eh? And for sure, S1 had phenomenal sound and visuals, just the story was neither here nor there; if they've improved the earlier, and more importantly, the latter, it can only be superb.

Thanks!

It looks good for a Sci-Fi show but doesn't look right as Star Trek. It just doesn't look earlier than TOS, Enterprise did it better. Also Burnham is so unlikable

It's so refreshing to finally Find a YouTuber that has the same admiration of the show that I do. Alot of guys are hating on the show and I'm not seeing it

What didn't suck was Pike, No. 1, Spock, Enterprise and original style uniforms. Everything else did suck sometimes less sometimes more but overall sucks a lot.

The only thing I agree with in this video was that Anson Mount was great as Pike. Everything else to me left ALOT to be desired. No more Kurtzman

ST: Discovering Michael Burnam. MB is the alpha and omega. Yin and yang. She is the beginning, middle and the end. Next she will give birth the the universe and destroy it. Yes it did suck!

Anson Mount gave us the Captain Pike I wanted to see more of in TOS (I'm just about old enough to remember the original run). The Red Angel plot dragged on a bit too long for my liking, but the character I loved most was Number One. Her bad ass attitude makes me want to see her get the Captains chair, and her own spin off :D

I felt there were maybe a few more missteps overall... But the second season was such a step up over the first. And yes, dammit, give us a Pike series!!

I like your positivity in all the hate. I’m trying to hang on. It’s gotten better...

Saru finally growing some cajones, Jet Reno's first interaction with Stamets and Empress Georgiou just being there. These are a few of my favourite things. Anson Mount as Pike needs no mention, that's how epic he was. Lest we forget he played Blackbolt in that TERRIBLE (not his fault, he couldn't speak and he still had more charisma than the rest of the cast) Inhumans.

Interesting. You are one of the few people who thinks that story-wise, Discovery is good. But most folks seem to want a Captain Pike spinoff.

I agree with you on Pike and wanting a spin off but that is about it. That being said season 2 was better then 1, and thats not saying much!

It's a great show. I'm currently watching season two. I'm not really a fan of the star trek and star wars franchise, but this was the very first space themed show that I fell in love with.
Yeah season 2 is absolutely better than season 1.
