Better be using coolant😂 problems only ever occur from water

It really depends on the vehicle. Now question ever put pure water in there, but most vehicles nowadays call for 50/50.

There’s this book called a manual 😮, it should tell you there.

Interesting reactions can happen when you mix different coolant recipes, so theres something of a risk when you are refilling coolant and you aren’t 100% sure what you were starting with, so under a quart I prefer to use plain water. When I lived in Texas I never worried about topping off with water because at our absolute lowest temps of 30 F I could trust any ratio above 90/10 so as long as i only ever filled with 50/50 I was good. Here in NC I don’t trust future me for shit so I’m definitely not going to trust that guy to drain and refill 50/50 when a snow storm starts blowing our way.

Pure water has higher heat capacity than coolant mix. If you don't see freezing temperature, just run distilled water.
If not, just use pre-mix OEM or follow the manual for the mixture ratio.

Water if its just in for an oil change or something but if working on the coolant system or replacing components than use coolamt

If your a shop, I hope you are using the same type of coolent for that vehicle and the correct ratio of coolent/water, generally 50/50 mix.which we always have on hand.
Even if it is to just bring it up to level a little bit.
But if you have to use water, it is not a automatic death sentence for the vehicle.

Honestly for me personally, it’s depends on how much I lost, if I only lost a quart or so, distilled water for sure, 90% coolant and 10% water isn’t gonna hurt it, if I lost more then that, coolant

I'm not a mechanic so this is probably foolish of me to voice. I don't think there's a one-size-fits-all answer. Why is it low? Leak or evaporation? What's more likely in your area freezing or excessive heat? It's hot where I live and only ever touches freezing a few nights out of the year. If I get a leak I'll do the fluid if it's been a while and I'm only a little low I'll just top with water.

Closed system. Should never be low on coolant.
Pressure test and look for leaks.

I use Kool-Aid plus one part LSD, then I had 1 quart of chocolate syrup and they usually keep the car running at least 300, 000 mile mark

Run 100% coolant in my truck. The new coolant now days is way more engineered than the old 50/50 mix shit
