I FOUND 2 Rare EVs ABANDONED In A Barn... Will They Drive?

I got a call to come drag two EVs out of a barn where they've been abandoned for over 10 years. This is the worst thing you could hear when dealing with super old batteries and super old drivetrains, but I hooked the trailer up and went to check out this Weego Whip and Vectrix VX-1 scooter.

I wonder if the BMS resistors are burning up because one cell string is severely discharged and other strings are trying to DUMP current into their injured sibling and overwhelming the resistors. Which is... NOT how a BMS should work in theory but this is the dark ages of EV technology so who knows what they were doing.

Vectrix was pretty cool and popular for a minute. They arrived at the "factory" in RI in two pieces and final assembly was done there. It'll be interesting if you need a new battery!

I sold my red wheego whip a few years ago. Great in our small town. I swapped the batteries with used golf cart batteries from a fleet that does yearly swaps. My AC and power steering even worked good.

The batteries in the Wheego have 4 caps, If Im not mistaken that mean they are 8 volts not 12. They resemble 8 volt golf cart batteries.

Transport Evolve had a working Vectrix that they converted to Lithium. I don't know what they did with the old parts. Range was 50 miles on old batteries. 150 with new.

If you're replacing lead acid batteries, LifePo4 batteries will do you very well.
