Number of coronavirus deaths in the UK passes 12,000

Another 778 patients with coronavirus have died in hospitals across the UK, taking the nationwide total to 12,107.

The number of tests for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, has also risen by 14,982 to 382,650, although this figure includes some patients being tested more than once.

According to the Department of Health, 93,873 people have now tested positive in the UK.

Beyond the deaths associated with this plague, the saddest thing about this crisis has I think, has been the revelation about how utterly pathetic the global media has been in how they have treated it. To say they have covered it would be such an unjustified over-exaggeration of the disservice they have done to the people they should be serving. The whole global industry of corporate media has proven itself to be less than worthless at exactly the time they could have distinguished themselves.

the hospitals have been emptied of normal patients and the 1.4million NHS staff have at most 15, 000 suspected and confirmed cases of covid 19 to look after, they are being prioritised for ppe and testing, while at the same time care homes and their staff are having to look after 450, 000 of our most vulnerable people with no testing and shortages of ppe, GPS won't visit and hospitals won't accept suspected elderly. The care homes are being turned into hospices and have been abandoned by this governments strategy, I am not having a go at NHS but they should be taking the burden off the care homes by providing staff testing and equipment.

All my Family work in Social Care. We are all well trained in infection control and had ample supplies of PPE, but although we saw this coming, we were completely knocked back by how quickly it spread. Existing procedures have been thrown out the Window, and we all feel pretty scared when we set off for work each day. We are not going to blame anyone for it. Perhaps in a years time we'll look back and think how we could have managed it better, - but today we are just staying alert to keep alive.

It's really sad and shocking to hear that so many innocent lives lost. I live in Kerala, India with a population of around 35 million and the total number of deaths so far is just 3. So 700 + deaths in 24 hrs is really hard to believe !
