Apple has finally refreshed the Mac mini after four years with a pro focused redesign in mind. The New 2018 Mac mini comes standard with a four core processor and is upgradable to a six core i7 processor. Can the Mac mini with its new processor, faster ssd speeds, and t2 chip be a worthy upgrade to become your new Mac desktop?

Mainly based on this video I bought a Mac Mini in 2019 with 256gb SSD, 6 Core i7, and 8 GB of ram. I upgraded the ram to 32gb with Crucial. This Mini is running a complete recording studio with Logic 10.5. I am very happy with it. I run three monitors without eGPU but keep them at 1080p. I haven't had any problems. Thanks for the video!

I like the new machine, but I do not understand WHY APPLE felt the need to build they system so it is difficult to replace the RAM...when CLEARLY they designed it in 2012 to have the RAM replaced EASILY. One step forward, two steps back.

The USB-C to headphone jack adapter is by far the best new product released last week! So impressive and revolutionary when compared to the other products released last week such as the new iPad Pros

This revision stands out because Apple have actually listened to users, which is very refreshing. I used to own a Mac Mini and I like them and would consider it to replace the 2013 Imac I'm typing this on in the near future. The 27 Imac even this old one (which is reasonably upgraded) is (still) a very quick and almost flawless performer. So you think I'd go a couple of years newer or brand new 5K imac - the problem is great though that 5 k screen is I can't plug in another computer to it (that isn't Apple). I'm not rushing down the Apple store just yet though- what about those thermals?

I been watching a lot of videos and reading a lot of articles about the Mac mini and I am trying to figure out what mini should I get. I want to use it for video editing using FCPX. I am going to use my MacBook Air to with screen share when I don’t want to go downstairs. When I do I will connect the mini to my monitor. I been looking at minis from 2011 to the latest. I don’t need anything for crazy editing but good enough when it’s not so slow that I can’t do anything. What do you think I should go for?

I have a late 2012 Mac mini quad core i7, will choosing the 2018 i5 Mac mini be a step up or down?

Dude, the 8th gen i3 is not like previous gens - it's way-way more powerful! And it most certainly will be able to stretch to much more than just "light-work"

I’m obviously not in the market, but what’s the advantage of connecting multiple Mac mini’s together? How exactly does it make them server grade in terms of performance?

Ive read they strongly advise to have Apple techs replace the RAM--and if the SSD fails in the 2nd or 3rd year of ownership AppleCare+ may or may not cover the logic board replacement.

Will the non dedicated graphics card affect the rendering time when editing and finishing up video editing. Would be just be using iMovie not FCP. Mixed reviews on YouTube.

So it would be a bad idea to get the i7 version with 128gb? I only would use it for video and photo editing a maybe web browsing. I would buy a 4TB external hard drive to save files under Final Cut Pro and from photo editing. Would that be a good idea?

Is the CPU user replaceable if you've done lots of upgrades? Thanks

Is it possible to upgrade the SSD on your own?

So...I purchased the new Mac Mini hoping to connect it to my late model 2013 27” iMac. Nope. My iMac only has the original Thunderbolt port. The new Mac Mini only has a Thunderbolt 3 port. Of course there is no cable or adapter that goes directly from the original Thunderbolt to a Thunderbolt 3. There’s only a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt 2 or a Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3. After being on the phone with Apple Support for two days we tried to put my iMac in Target Display Mode using a Thunderbolt to DVI, DVI to DVI, and then DVI to HDMI. Nope. Still can’t get my iMac to “see” my Mac mini. So far no way to connect rendering my new Mac mini useless.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated! 😖 thanks!

Hi bro,
For photoshop and editing light videos, what you recommend? The i3 quad core is enough?
For ssd I would take 256 and 8gb ram and upgrade later by myself
What 27” display you also recomend for Mac mini for About 600-700$
