Apple's new 2018 Mac Mini is a powerhouse, with processor performance on par or greater than some of Apple's highest-end Macs.

We compare benchmarks against the 2018 i9 MacBook Pro and the 2017 iMac Pro before putting the Mac Mini through our Cinebench R15 stress test.

even in 2022 for music an I7 3.2ghz with 64gb ram here, is doing great for a big music rig Im running. Was able to grab a 1tb model for $680 and then buy my own ram. It also still supports 32 bit apps on Mojave, so for me I picked this over a Mac Studio. For music ive always gone with a low to mid tier GPU, and put all my stock into raw cpu power. Thats what we do in audio production, so this def is still a great buy in 2022. For under 1k you can get a maxed out mac min with 1tb ssd, 64gb ram and a 6 core i7 8gen....not bad.

i am loving my new Mac Mini with the i7 6 core CPU, I purchased with 8gb ram 1TB SSD, then added my own 32gb of RAM saved a bunch of money. I use it for Lightroom and Photoshop. great machine

TL;DR - doesn't throttle more than intended. Outperforms i9 in macbook pro under 100% load long term. Yes, get this over base i3 CPU.

I just added liquid metal to mine 2018mini (i7) and it stabilized on 4.2 GHz completely silent !

All I ever wanted was an option for MBP 15" Graphics in the Mac mini form factor

I’ve seen quite a few videos of you tubers saying you’re able to edit video pretty well on the Mac

I'd love to see a thermal test of the new mini with the bottom off.
I made a new base for my 2012 i7 mini from the top rim of a plastic coffee can that happened to be the right diameter to clip on. It took 10 minutes and you can't even see it unless you look closely. I see a 20C drop under stress tests. It never goes above 80C even with a long Handbrake encode.

Just add a External GPU and you have a Powerhouse MacOS setup.

How about putting it on a cooling pad to keep down the temperatures so it doesn't throttle?

What is the speed difference between the i5 and i7 chips in the Mac Mini? Could you quantify it for me? I'm looking to buy one and want to know what the actual benefit is to getting the i7 over the i5 as you recommend.

Change the Termal Paste .. and you will see that max Temperature is 90 Degrees irrespective how much you push it. It will only up the Fan

The case of my i7 gets so hot to the touch even when just browsing internet (i7 32gb ram) - it sits on a smooth desk. Plenty of room around it. Core temps regularly at 140-180f. Is this normal?

Also, with an eGPU, my Mac Mini (2018, hex) runs significantly cooler since it does not use the internal GPU...

I'm curious and have yet to see a video on the i7 mac mini where someone uses a fan controlling software. Cooling fans in apple computers don't ramp up until it sees a big constant load, which by that time it's already thermally throttling. So what if you were to kick the fans up from the get go. Would it still thermal throttle?

As much flak as the Mac Pro has received over the years, its performance is still very good.

Very interesting. If i put in 32gb of Kingston HyperX DDR4 Ram running at 3200mhz, will it actually run at 3200mhz or does the system cap at 2666mhz speeds ?
