Tory leadership hopefuls jostle for position to replace Rishi Sunak

Leading contenders in the battle to replace Rishi Sunak and restore the Tories’ fortunes have been making initial pitches to Conservatives for support.

Suella Braverman, Robert Jenrick and Victoria Atkins used a series of newspaper articles and interviews to say what they think went wrong for the Tories and how the party can turn itself around following its worst-ever election result.

Former home secretary Mrs Braverman said the party needed to take a tougher line on reducing immigration, claiming some Tories had treated voters like “mugs” and Mr Sunak had run an “idiotic strategy”.

She said the party was facing an “existential threat” from Nigel Farage’s Reform UK.

Ex-immigration minister Robert Jenrick said failing to reduce numbers coming to the UK was “our biggest and most damaging failure” and the former government “insulted the public with decisions that caused net migration to spiral to unprecedented levels”.

And Ms Atkins said the country was still “instinctively Conservative” despite an election which resulted in the Tories returning just 121 MPs, the lowest in the party’s history, with Labour winning a majority of 174.

Not Stella definitely not Kemi infact they’re part of the problem - kick them out of the party for starters would help the image

Don’t you find it odd that Suella Braverman is so against immigrants? It’s like turning in your own people when you only just scraped through the door yourself. Truly an untrustworthy politician, he stance on Israel’s genocide is truly disgusting. She has also failed in every position of government failing repeatedly to do her job, m especially when it came to Rwanda.

What went wrong? Well how about 5 Prime Ministers in one term? How about that? And Suella Braverman? She is not liked very well by the public. The Tories would be mad to have her as leader but let's face it, their choices of leader in recent history have been dire.

Sit on for a while, need someone with integrity and honesty. That rules out most of them at the moment.

Suella Braverman has been treated awful by Sunak and the Tory Party, she is a good plain, honest, speaker and would fair better in the Reform Party.

Rishi is Perfect Candidate for being a opposition leader, he shouldn't step down from leader of conservatives party. Rishi Must Play as the Role of Opposition Leader

I normally vote conservative, not this last time, nor the time before for mad man Boris, the new leader needs charisma and understand what the electorate want, and by this I don’t mean the 100, 000 conservative member ship. I do t see anyone with that charisma at the moment, some one who wants to change things for the people. For the moment will give Starmer a chance and see how he gets on

Why is every one going nuts at rishi he inherited a dirty party he’s sacked loads yeah he didn’t get it all right but end of the day you can’t get it right first time every time and tbh I believe rishi had good intentions just had blockers on some things and tbh he had people trying to screw us over I don’t think he personally did it or wanted it this way but I believe they should be punished but don’t just pin him for everything’ he wasn’t the real problem it was Teresa may and the other daft liz trust.
