It would be nice if at the end of these videos you showed a score board that shows the past score from the other trucks you've run so we can easily see how they all stack up.

Ford has the sport mode feature too which is actually recommended for mountain towing. it would have helped with the grade shifting. they could have locked out the top gears as well, or manually selected gears going uphill or downhill. the truck is built with many many tools to help your towing experience.

Still think the 87 down here in AZ in the summer is tougher. 6-7% grade, with HEAT. Brings a lot of trucks to their knees. It would be interesting to see how well that Ford (err all of them for that matter) would do down here when you start out at 110+ degrees and top out at Mt. Ord at 90+ in August. I know my stupid DuraMaxipad would go into self preservation limp mode every time pulling my toy hauler (which was well within the tow weight specs of the truck). Same thing going up to Flag on the 17.

Wow that 10 speed and new ecoboost are beast. Didn't even break a sweat.

Love the channel and these Ike gauntlet videos. I just bought a new 2018 F150 4x4 with the 2.7 because of you guys and couldn't be happier!

Slightly disappointed that there was little or no discussion, until after the timed run ended at 9:05, about the engine performance. It took until that point for us to hear "Anyplace on that hill, with this 10-speed and the power, I could accelerate." I suppose if the truck were struggling it would have been a more obvious issue (tach revved out, speed dropping, etc.) but with that brand-new and still controversial Ecoboost technology I was eager for at least a couple comments as the guys were blasting up the hill. Minor quibble, but still.

How about a emergency brake test distance where you brake to a complete stop from 55mph on dry, level ground fully loaded? How does the rig feel? Is there any squirreliness or tendency to "jack knife"? This should test the sway control in each truck.

The problem with the gear hunting isn't the shift shock you feel, it's the torture on the trans every time it shifts.

Good job Ford, but I'd only buy the V-8 for durability reasons. As I mentioned last year, a 30-30-30-10 scoring system would render scores that would more closely match the traditional ABCDF system of grading. With your system, people are like wait, the winning truck got a C-? Brake down the subjective into 5 areas worth 0-2 points each or ten areas worth 0-1 point each. There's too much subjective weighting. It's more about the numbers that you are gathering. And, at the end go over those 5 or 10 areas and give us the breakdown on what those scores were. When I hear what score did you give it, and there's an "ahhhh, well, ahhhh", I can sense the hand reaching into ones posterior and pulling a number out. Sit down and work out individual areas to score and add them up on camera.

"2017 Nissan Titan 1500 Ike Gauntlet" At times during test it was turning over 6000 RPM! Yeah, that engine will last a long time towing large hills . .

I was surprised the rpms stayed so low. the low end torque is pretty good

I agree with others that a better /tougher test would be on a steep stretch of grade in the middle of summer. Reason why because the motor is producing lots of heat but kept in check by the cold temps, where in the summer temps in a hot climate only the trucks cooling system is keeping things in check. This is where I believe where the playing field will really be leveled out. Right now on these tests the forced induction is giving the ford always the advantage, but in the mid summer forced induction produces lots of heat and can loose power.

TFL, please try using cruise control. Most people tow with cruise control activated. I know in the past you've stated why you don't use it, but let's try to isolate the TRUCK'S performance and eliminate driver input. Maybe do a run with cruise control activated and then a full manual run with downshifting and upshifting controlled by the driver for comparison. What does the manufactuer recommend?

a little confused. if the goal is to maintain constant 60mph up the hill, what's the significance of timing the run?

the base model looks better, no flashy chrome and only 26k that is the one id get could you guys review that one with the base engine, i think the fleet model even comes with the v8 and is still under 30k seems like more value to me

That would be terrifying as hell to be broken down in a tunnel like that.
