Here in the final episode of a new five-part series we take a close look at one of the world’s most influential wisdom texts the Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching). Allegedly written by Lao Zi (Lao Tzu) in the 6th century BCE, these 81 “chapters” or verses form the core of Daoist scripture. In this episode we read and explore chapters 68, 70, 71, 73, 74, 76, 78, 79, 81, and 67.

In this video I'm using the Stephen Mitchell translation from Harper Perennial, New York, 1988.

I never understood binge-watching until now. As a philosophy/religion major (decades ago), I finally found something for which I can't wait to see the next episode! I'm sad there are only 5 on the Dao De Jing. I already finished Christianity, so it's now on to Hinduism. I love how you draw the connections between the different faiths. Thank you for sharing your wisdom so humbly and gracefully. You have an amazing gift for reaching out through the camera to create the experience of an authentic conversation, with a balance of humor and depth. May the Force be with you. :)

Such a blissful transmission. It is not only about the depths of Lao De Jing teachings, but also in the way you are transmitting in such light and humbleness 🙏

Professor Bolland, your reading of Laozi’s Dao De Jing warmed my heart. Your commentary was excellent and it was wonderful to go on this journey with you

I’m a history major and I’m absolutely fascinated by eastern mysticism. As an American of Albanian Muslim heritage (Sufi) who practices Zen Buddhism, a lot of what I’ve heard from all the texts you’ve gone through in your videos resonates with me so much. I’m definitely going to order a copy of the Dao De Jing and probably keep it by my bedside for daily readings and reflections

You’ve definitely earned another subscriber. The way you articulate yourself, teach, read, and must say bestow wisdom upon your audience truly inspires me. The greatest of teachers can teach without speaking, and you sir taught me so much by smiling as you read. It’s the simple things in life

Bless

So enjoyable, many thanks! Bar one chapter, I got some value from them all. The one about the baby, Chapter 55, defeated me completely.

Hey Peter, just want to oncegain thank you for the wonderful work you do by bringing these ancient texts to life. It feels so real as you read and explain then and I can't express how deeply all this spiritual philosophy has touched me.
I'll definitely keep on following you and have also started to check your other mediums :)
For now I would like to ask you if you have any thoughts on the Kojiki? I've just recently started researching japanese spirituality and would love to have your outlook on their writings.
