Easy Saltine Cracker Toffee, aka Christmas Crack, is a simple cookie recipe that's great for the holidays....or all year long. Sweet, salty perfection!
----------------------------------FULL RECIPE BELOW-----------------------------------------------
Ingredients
▢40 salted saltine crackers or enough to line the baking sheet
▢1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter
▢1 cup packed light brown sugar
▢2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
▢1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper leaving a bit of overhang and line the sheet with saltines.
In a small saucepan, melt the butter and then add the light brown sugar stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil and continue boiling for approximately 3 minutes or until the mixture is deep caramel in color. Pour the boiling mixture (please be careful!) onto the saltines and spread to cover evenly.
Bake the saltines in a 400 degree oven for 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the saltines.
Let the toffee sit for a few minutes to allow the chocolate to melt and then spread evenly over the toffee using an offset spatula or a butter knife. Sprinkle the chopped pecans on the chocolate and let cool completely.
Once the toffee has cooled break apart into pieces and store in an airtight container.

It's-14 F today. I'm just sticking it out on the deck.

Great thing about living in Minnesota. You never run out of room for Christmas leftovers. Out in the porch they go.

My grandmother got this recipe from a local television station in 1985 from one of those cooking segments. When she died, I happened to find it. I had forgotten all about it until then.

Instead of parchment paper I use aluminum foil and I butter the pan before I put my crackers on the pan. It gives the crackers a more buttery toasted tastes. It really ups the game on this already delicious treat. 😊

A little disappointed because my saltines & toffee burned. I just found another recipe that instructs oven temp 350 ( not 400 as shown in this video). If you have an oven that runs hot, definitely use the lower temp & watch closely. 😔

Why not put the nuts in a ziploc bag and whack with a wooden cooking mallet? Do not completely close the baggie so air escapes

Love this crack but sometimes the toffee part turns out gritty or granulated ☹️. Did I not let it boil long enough? So disappointed. Help 😬 please.

I attempted 2 batches but each one burned while cooking the butter and sugar. Burner set to medium, timer set to 3 minutes. What might be the problem?

Butter separated, what did I do wrong? Did I get it too hot? I used to thermometer. It was up to 270.
