Now, bizarrely enough, this original design for the predator has long since been canonized as the Amengi.

They actually include this design on the Predator lore, They're now known as Amengi, the only alien species that at one time enslave The Yuatja/Predators, they experimented on Yuatja/Predator to make better fighters because Amengi are obsessed with fighting, and that's why Yuatja also became obsess with fighting/hunting. In the end they're defeated by their own creation.

Thank God that Stan stepped in and gave us the masterpiece we came to know and love! Only thing that's always bugged me is that in most of the scenes when the Pred is cloaked you can clearly see that his dreadlocks aren't there.

Van Damme was also frustrated because he thought he was going to be able to show his martial art skills. Until he arrives on set and has to wear a unconfortable bring red suit and just jump around a forest.
