I am so glad they redesigned it.
I thought it was a marketing tactic at first, but then I saw that they even made a statue for the original design, and the production crew called it their "baby", it definitely had a face that only a mother could love.

Them choosing to redesign Sonic has to be the greatest example "listen to your fans" I've ever seen. That ONE decision catapulted them into the success they're seeing right now with no signs of slowing down (pun intended).
