Maybe Sony can get someone who is actually a fan of video games this time.

As I move away from Twitter, these breaking news segments have been fantastic! It’s good to see the crew returning to this kind of coverage in a healthier way than at the other place 💜

Jim Ryan leaving Sony is definitely Good Vibes if I've ever felt them.

RIP Bozo, won't forgive you for shutting down Japan Studio (noticed the Gravity Rush music in the background)

I know nothing will change in that regard, but I'm glad he's gone.

During Jim Ryan's tenure as CEO, he moved PlayStation headquarters to California, closed Japan Studio, and has put into production eleven separate GAAS titles. Good riddance, but you just know the next person to take over will be even worse.

Dude raised game prices, yeeted Japan Studio and left.

Honestly, after what’s been going on with PlayStation for the past few years, it’s for the best. I’m just hoping this means PlayStation will move forward for the better

Honestly, rather happy he's stepping down. Wasn't happy or down with quite a few of his decisions or initiatives... Especially regarding how they affected Japanese Devs. The damage can't be undone, but more of it can be prevented now.

Sony has a grand total of like...one new game release this whole year (Nintendo has 7 without even including the various remakes/remasters, in case you're wondering (8 if you include the Bayonetta spinoff)). Jim Ryan nearly shut down PS3 and PSVita's online stores 2 years ago, he was there during the entire botched attempt to prevent Microsoft from acquiring Activision Blizzard (a thing I did not want but Sony's reasoning was hypocritical and absurd), he oversaw the closure of Japan Studio, has been leading Sony to rely on GAAS games and just recently decided on a massive price hike on PS Plus.

Despite having some optimism for Playstation a couple of years ago (those 2020 PS5 events are like the closest any company has gotten to doing a good Nintendo Direct-like event not named Nintendo), you will not convince me Jim Ryan has done good for gaming. Or at best you will convince me Sony as a whole is bad (based on their attempted monopoly on anime, a reasonable assumption). Point is, he did not make any good impression on me, ever.

My conspiracy theory is that the ransomware incident was the final straw for Jim Ryan.

Between that and all the Microsoft stuff, Jim was just stressed beyond belief and chose to prioritize his mental health.

Honestly, he kind of letPlaystation go to hell, so who cares. Ps5 is selling well, but their greed will alginate fans

By leaving the compagny on the 1st of april, it just confirms the big joke he was.

As someone who loves playing Japanese Anime Waifu games, the Jim Ryan era gave them a hard time, censorship is the big one.

THANK GOD!!! He was the worst CEO that the company had, IMO. I hated his boneheaded decisions and the various boneheaded decisions that were made by others while he was in power like getting rid of Japan Studio, moving Sony's main headquarters to California, the PS+ price increases, and so on. I've hated his leadership ever since he basically said that older video games aren't worth playing. He will not be missed.

That being said, hope he has a decent retirement. I hated all of his choices as CEO, but everyone still deserves a decent retirement.

Does this mean that the Buzz quiz games from PS2 will finally come back? Please??

Hmmm, this happening after right after Kamiya left Platinum is clearly no coincidence. The most reasonable explanation is that their either going to swap jobs or just Kamiya takes this guy's old job 🧐

Think about this: what are the odds that Sony recently got hit with a hack, and now Jim Ryan’s departure announcement…coincidence?

All the reports about this are phrasing it like he's retiring. I don't think it's actually a reaction to some of the more controversial stuff Sony's been doing like the PS Plus price hike. Dude's 55 and he's been with Sony since like midway through PS3 when he was a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe so he probably felt it was time to call it quits

Anyhow best of luck to whoever is succeeding him full time. I hope they're keeping Herman Hulst as head of PS Studios though because that was a pretty solid change for the management structure I liked. There's been apparently some internal delays on what Sony's been working on based on recent financial calls they've had with investors so hopefully we see stuff soon. I wanted that Wolverine game yesterday
