Between the huge PS Plus price increase, the infamous PS Portal, the shift towards more live services, to some of the things Jim Ryan's said over the years, I'm not surprised Jim Ryan wasn't a popular leader among the gaming community.

PS players: we are free!

New CEO: Oh, I wouldn't say "free". More like... under new management.

Hopefully the new CEO won't be an ex EA executive.

One of my biggest problems with the jim ryan phase was Sony killing off many Japanese aspects and the horrible censorship of Japanese games. Hopefully that comes to an end.

I just hope whoever becomes the new Sony CEO actually plays video games

This is only good news if his successor proves to be better for the consumers than him, you know that right?

I only hope they don't trade him for a greater evil. No ex EA execs, PLEASE!

I don't have a lot of love for Jim Ryan; but worry who will follow him since SIE Interactive wants to go all-in on live services. Next thing you know the new CEO will be an ex-EA, ex-Unity CEO...

I’m cautiously optimistic. I hated the approach of censorship in Japanese games as well as the shut downs of those studios, not to mention their undeniable hatred towards cross play, and hiking up the price of games and ps+. I feel there’s not a lot a new CEO could do worse than Jim Ryan, but then again he might not be making all the calls.

Just cause he's stepping down doesn't mean that's a good thing.

We lost some good games and a studio because of him. Well deserved

Hopefully, Sony's new CEO will be like Shuhei Yoshida, and will get rid of Sony's dumb censorship guidelines.

Cool now let's see if they don't replace him with someone even worse.

Also it was under his watch that one of the best studios was closed. Japan Studio was why I loved the PS3 so much. They made some of my favourite games. Sony always had a breadth of great games, the smaller art house games, and the big AAA games. Those days are gone. They even closed the studio that made Concrete Genie.
It’s upsetting to see and right now there are no PlayStation games coming up I’m interested in and I cancelled PS plus because it doesn’t offer anything anymore. I hope the next CEO will see worth in smaller games like Pupeteer and Rain and again.

After hearing the news my joy quickly faded when realizing these corporate successors rarely are upgrades.

Who would have thought that people that ruin companies used to work at EA...? 😂

The problem with him is that it was clear he was not a gamer. If you ever saw a picture of him holding a controller, then you know what I mean. I hope we get someone who actually plays the games and can talk passionately about their games and studios.

I'll only celebrate when the new CEO proves they are not greedy scumbags.

"The cruelty of the old CEO is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy company."

I still haven't forgiven them for gutting Japan Studio. That error was the entire reason I haven't bought a PS5.
