Pokémon fans are the cornerstone of the Pokémon Community. Sometimes, their wishes come true but they are often completely out of reach.

In this video, we will analyze something that no Pokémon Fan ever asked, but once introduced, it became one of the biggest dreams for Pokémon fans.

The possibility to revisit a previous region in a new Pokémon game in the style of what Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, and their remakes did.

The massive world was an incredible feat in itself. RBY all exist on cartridges with 1MB of storage, GSC has 2MB. Imagine. Three overworld time-of-day palettes, 251 monsters all with individual animated front and back sprites, game data and cries, two regions, thousands of lines of dialog, and the programming code that puts it into an interesting game. In two bloody megabytes. Incredible.

Black and White 2 were especially cruel about us wanting to visit past regions. The Cave of Being’s map description claims it leads to Sinnoh, but when you actually go there it’s just ONE ROOM that exists to spawn Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf. 🤦‍♂

"Honestly, I think this was a good thing, because you had more space for wonder."

Yeah... When I found the Regi caves (and the underwater cavern that opened them), they sent me on a real-world quest to figure out how to open them. I showed the strange dots to my Nana to see if she could make sense of them, and she told me it was Braille. This led to me borrowing a book on Braille from my school library, which brought out a sense of wonder when I realized the dots in the game indeed matched the ones in the book exactly. It felt amazing when I was actually able to read the Braille in-game (via cross-referencing, granted) and decipher the rather esoteric puzzles to open the Regi chambers. Would that I could recapture that feeling...

Strange that in 2024 we have 80gb games but still is not possible to have a game with all the regions not even with graphics of gba

I can write with certainty that visiting Kanto from Johto in pokemon crystal was one of my favorite moments ever in pokemon. I never realized it's come up but that was something I always looked for this to in every pokemon game. The battle frontier in Emerald, the sevii islands in Firered/leafgreen, etc. However nothing could ever come close to Finishing a world and finding another world right near my backyard was the best experience I had as a kid. I really think that experience helped make me a lifelong pokemon fan. Maybe someday when gamefreak makes good games again or a good remaster, getting even 2 worlds like in gen 2 can happen.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver there's an event area called the Sinjoh Ruins that exists between Johto and Sinnoh. I always used to imagine it being possible to keep traveling north and eventually explore around in Sinnoh, which would have been really cool given that it would kind of in a way be doing the opposite; traveling into a future region from a past one. Alas, this was never anything more than a dream.

I was very hopeful Ruby and Sapphire would have previous regions when I was a kid, especially Johto, which I loved. The fact that FR/LG had Kanto again, and there was a post game, but it was just the Sevii Islands, and not Johto, infuriated me lol

I've always wished for this. It probably would never have the same effect as discovering Kanto did because the element of surprise would not be there. But it would still be cool to see how our old stomping grounds have changed over the years and revisit old friends.

While all regions would be too much, It would be nice to get a game with Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh, the four regions based on Japan and allegedly connected physically.

I kind of hope they don't do it until they start making good pokémon games again though.

if you're insane enough, you could also raise the level cap to 255, this could give more runway for the levels of the extra gym leaders.

I think, for the sake of the developers, it's better for them to focus solely on the region they're currently working on than to try to include stuff. As much as people like to call TotK DLC because of reuse of the map, developers still had to go back and redo assets and change up the terrain ontop of all the new physics interactions and revamping of how items work they did. To make a whole new region and then have to go back to an old region and change things up in particular ways to make it seem like time has passed is a BIG ask, honestly. And with how much ScarVio looked like crap and ran just as well, I don't want more burden on the devs then there currently is cause, like, it kinda feels like Pokemon is about to fly off the wheels at any moment currently.
Now with all that said, it still would be cool to go back and see how things have changed in older regions. That was the thing I loved in Gold/Silver and one of the big aspects I appreciated in TotK, seeing people living their lives and adapting to the changing times. Love to be in a world that feels like it's actually being live in and has the capacity to change.

Discovering Kanto in Silver blew my mind and ruined all future pokemon games for me. I loved Hoenn and Sapphire is my fave in the series, but it stung when I realised I couldn’t visit Johto and see what happened after the events of the game and what everyone was up to

I remember in gen 1 thinking that was all there ever would be. Just 151 Pokemon to entertain ourselves with forever. I figured Togepi wasn't even a Pokemon, just some random animal they found.

Honestly as cool as ruby sapphire was, they got rid of a lot of the things that made the previous generation so magical. The day and night system, going back to the previous region, battling your former self.. these are things they really should have kept in the games and god knows why they didn’t. I’m always gonna love ruby sapphire for what they were but I think the magic in Pokémon started to die with that generation. Just my two cents

Guys, whoever want to play a single game with all the five initial regions (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova), you can play PokeMMO. A single game that puts together the first five gens into a single multiplayer experience with freedom to travel between those regions with the same character.

The fact that we couldn't travel to other regions was one of the reasons I stopped playing Pokemon games after finishing my copy of Ruby, It wasn't until X and Y that a friend of mine pushed me back to Pokemon games.

You hit on some really good stuff here. I think there is a general misunderstanding of the desire for large, open Pokemon games as the desire for a BotW-esque open world. That is not the case, what people like me want is a game where you can visit various regions, but these regions are still structured and have proper design to them, not the large open fields with random Pokemon badly loading in all over the place that was SV.
These games need the sense of adventure back, the sense of trekking through an entire continent on an adventure. It does not need to be fully open, it can even be separated by loading screens on a larger map, the thing to nail here is the FEELING of scale and not necessarily how big the playable mass is or being to run from one end of the map to the other. Gold and Silver felt massive, it felt larger than games ten times bigger than it.

I want a two region game that starts in Kanto and ends in Johto

Sad to say the only reason kanto is in Gold/Silver/Crystal is because they thought that was the end of Pokémon. But Pokémon was so popular they kept going.

Also why many gym leaders & elite 4 have many gen 1 Pokémon

I remember being so disappointed about ruby and sapphire, when I found out there was no day/night cycle and you couldn't travel to past regions

We have to take note of the fact that everytime GF switches up the hardware GBA onwards something goes wrong.
