I am so sorry for people that go through this— my brother’s girlfriend is an only child and she goes through stuff like this everyday. Her parents mentally abuse her. It’s terrible 😞. Please, just be nice to everybody. You’ll never know what they go through at home, and that’s what upsets me the most. Love y’all, stay strong 💪❤️!

My brother died when I was 8 years old. From that on I grew up as an “only child”. But I hate it when ppl refer to me as one because I’m not. It wasn’t mine nor my parents fault that I have to grow up alone.
My parents want me to achieve everything for two kids. This is really hard. It also sometimes feels like I’m just a replacement for my brother. I was born AFTER the diagnosis of my brother and the knowledge, that he probably won’t live to see his 16th year of life. It feels like they just got me so they still have a child after my brother died. My bro always thought the same but still we two were best friends. I really miss him and miss my role model of big brother that taught me so much about life.

I'm an only child, I am lucky that my parents dont judge me on my tests and support me so much. I do feel lonely often wich I do get. When I was younger I hung out with the only two kids in my neighbourhood, I always wanted my friends brother to be my brother... Living with my grandparents as an only child and 3 uncles who were all 10 to 20 years older than me... People always think it's so great cause "everyone pays the most attention to you" when it's really who do you have to pay attention to and interact with when you're the only 1 child there. That and because it's only you they look for you not cause your "their only little angel" they also look and expect you to have and handle those responsibilities especially when it's only you. 😔

This is so real! I’m not an only child but my siblings have either moved out or never come out of there room and get grumpy with me when ever I’m around them so it’s like the equivalent of being the only child.

This is also a reality of many people with siblings, the stereotype of siblings not getting along is there for a reason. A sibling isn’t always everything. Me and my younger brother have a good relationship now as adults but as older kids? No. My mom and her sister had a great relationship until her sister let it be ruined by a man and now there’s always that missing piece. Siblings will either make or break you.

When I was an only child, I was in kindergarten. My mom never worried about grades, .I live on a dead end road surrounded by nature. My mom was a stay at home. I played outside all day enjoying the sun and dandelions. This carried on, and now that I'm older (teen) I explore the woods with my sisters. I love nature and always have. :)
