One of the most mysterious, unanswered questions in the Pokemon games is "Who is the Ghost Girl"? Throughout some of the games you come across ghost girls who disappear with no explanation. Super creepy when you are just a kid trying to play a game about cute little pocket monsters being forced into unending battles for your entertainment. Anyways, for as much as these ghosts have popped up throughout the game's history, there is little known about the lore. So today, Loyal Theorists, I am about to uncover the mystery of Pokemon's Ghost Girl!

Even sadder is that darkrai can’t control its nightmare abilities and gas to seclude it’s self because of that. Darkrai didn’t even mean to

I actually know why Darkrai made the ghost girl have the nightmare. In the more recent Pokémon Journeys and Master Journeys (I can’t remember which one), it is stated in one episode that Darkrai was not able to control its nightmare powers. So Darkrai did not mean to hurt the ghost girl, but due to incontrollable power, it made her fall into an endless nightmare. Something I would like to point out, in the same episode, it is mentioned that Cresselia exists to stop nightmares that Darkrai accidentally does. It balances the two out. Whe Darkrai accidentally harms someone, Cresselia’s there to stop the nightmare. Both Darkrai and Cresselia coexist.

I mean...she's a kid in the pokemon world. There's always one very-likely reason that Darkrai felt like it needed to defend itself: *someone tried to catch it.*

So, MatPat, when are you going to start talking about dead children in videogames?

MatPat: *yes*

Actually more evidence, one of the moves darkrai can learn is called dark void which is a move only accessible by darkrai, further more the moves description is "a move which when used puts the opponent in a never ending sleep" now the interesting part is it also gives darkrai more health from the opposing Pokémon so I'm guessing that darkrai used it by mistake on the little girl when it was angry or a better reason someone tried to catch it as trainers can catch it for a good team.

Didn't she used to play with abra on the bridge?
Maybe Abra saw Darkrai aproaching and attacked him to protect the girl, making Darkrai feel treathen and attacking him back... He misses cuz the girl was too close to her Abra and stepped in the way... Seems reasonable.

The nightmares caused by Darkrai are not intentional, everyone that's close to him become haunted by nightmares regardless of Darkrai's intensions

The ghost girls could very well be a reference to the onryo or how, in Japanese mythology, a lot of ghost stories seemed to be based around female ghosts, since they don't seem to be vengeful.

I think she was trying to convince her father to forget the Lunar Wing, but “Stay here with me” could be her noticing the Player and wishing they would stay with her, viewing them as a possible friend, and not wanting to lose them as she lost her Parents.

I feel like the dialogue “forget about the lunar wing, stay here with me” could’ve been her talking to her father, but I think it could also have been her nightmare trying to convince her to stay in the bad dream forever by using a familiar voice (her fathers) who she trusts

I have a theory (It's a long one, but it's worth to give a try)-
This girl is actually Lostelle.
An NPC appearing in Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green. When we go to the Two Island in Sevii Islands, we figure out, that the daughter of the owner of the Game Corner has been lost and he wants us to find her Lostelle. So, we go to Three Island and enter the Berry Forest and at the end of the forest, we find Lostelle and she says (while crying) "Please help me" and then we find out that she was kidnapped by an Hypno and we fight him, we can either faint it or catch it, and after that battle, we get back to the Two Island and Lostelle returns to her father. Now, there's a very popular creepypasta about Hypno called "Hypno's Lullaby", which is basically based on this incident and Hypno' pokedex entry, which Mat talked about that in this video. So, in this creepypasta, Hypno kidnaps kids and take them into the Berry Forest and keep them away from their family forever and there's even a song made about and you can find it on YouTube, and the worse part about that song is that it has Lavender Town's music in it. So my theory is that Lostelle was the only survivor from all those children that Hypno kidnapped and kept them them in the forest, and because of nightmares that Lostelle still has because of what Hypno did to her, her family shifted to Unova into that Strange House. And maybe those nightmares has something to do with Darkrai tormenting Lostelle. But hey, that's just a theo.... You know what, I can't do this, only Mat can.
