I feel sorry for the old guy who was genuinely interested, but got big leagued and was forced to walk away in shame.

Damn kinda feels like the old guy that was interested in the phone and could probably relate to using it in the past was kinda forced via social cue to walk away

Can we just give it up for that accent please? I could listen to it all day.

In my driver's test I had to pull over and make a call on a phone like that. The number just played a recorded message of the dangers of making calls while driving.

Can't wait for Roman to remix that phone dialing song at the end.

This guy sounds like if I don't listen to him talking about his car phone he'll bust my knee caps.

I had that phone and used it in my car and my boat. It was a lifesaver but back then it cost about two dollars a minute. Kids today don't know how good they have it

As someone who was born in the 70s and lived through the “bag phone” era, it is hilarious to listen to someone explain how bag phones worked to someone else who likely has never even seen one before. It sounds so antiquated now!

I had a car phone 1992. The company was Cellular One. I have no clue to what happened to the company. First hand device was a Nokia in 2000. Then the Black berry and first Apple in 2007. Now the Apple 15 and a watch. Technology keeps evolving.

It's called a "bag phone" slightly different from a car phone in that it had luggable portability but no battery.

These actually were getting a premium in the early mid 00s because they had such strong antennas and analog service was still around. Useful for being out in the middle of nowhere for drivers and truckers.

By 1995 the first practical pocket phones came to market and largely displaced these bag phones. Car phones still remained a thing for awhile, a fixture of constancy and status symbol.

By 2000 the flip phone and various nokia inflitrations displaced all, even the car phone.

Man, had a very similar phone in high school.... $50 a month I think for 30 NON-ROAMING With a pretty small coverage map I had to keep in the bag. You went outside that area and it was several dollars per minute roaming. I remember celebrating the whole "no more roaming?" move years

My father had a '94 BMW that had the phone option installed but never had the service for it. I always loved that car.
