I had an incident with a shady seller on ebay, and I wanted to teach you guys how to get a refund from them if they try some kind of scam.

PROTIP: If your item doesn't arrive on time and the seller offers to send the item again, DO NOT DO IT. You run out the ebay Buyer Protection thing and it can be an absolute pain in the ass to get anywhere outside of that. If your item doesn't come on time, REQUEST A REFUND. If your item comes afterwards then cool, contact the seller and pay again, but don't let the ebay buyer protection run out, it'll be an absolute nightmare for you, especially if you're outside of the US.

I just found out as a newbie ebay buyer for just a couple of months that some sellers are scammers. Selling an item not as described and then when we communicate, seller fraudulently lied that the item was never altered. Thanks to reputable sources, little did he know, I took pictures when I had it and that the expensive item was not as he said it was. Claiming to have twenty years of experience in that field and try to make money off of me by saying it was what it was not. Worst thing is, he threaten to take me to court if ebay forces him to refund me the money. Well, we will know in twenty four hours if I will get a money back guarantee refund for some repaired/restored item the seller lied about and accused me of altering when the item truly revealed what it was.

EBay tells me i got refunded through PayPal and PayPal always tells me they don't have anything... so I always lose out on any refund.

I remember when ebay first started.
It was like a 24 hour yard-sale.
Now way too many are buying returns from Amazon and trying to pass them off as new.
Plus everyone wants retail prices with inflated shipping costs to cover their fees.
I rarely even use it anymore.
Just isn't worth the hassle or risk.

Evidencing the condition of an item at the point of being returned is really important. Sellers only have to drop an item and damage it to complain. Best solution is to video the condition of the item at the point of being packed at the post office with video showing item the being packed securely and handed to the post office counter staff which leaves zero scope for dodgy sellers trying to avoid refunding items

I purchased a bottle of cologne and it was clearly tampered with and had dirt floating inside the bottle. I contacted the seller about it rather than go through the normal ebay channels because I wanted to give the seller the benefit of the doubt that they didn't realize there was a problem, and also because I didn't want to cause issues for the seller with ebay. I got a nice reply back and the seller told me he will issue a full refund including return shipping and gave me his address. He also told me to send him a copy of the return shipping receipt so he knows how much to pay back. I did all that and it is now a week after he received the cologne and he won't return my messages or refund me. What can I do since I didn't go directly through eBay's return process? I do have all the messages we exchanged where the seller told me he will give me a full refund.

I paid over $502us for a new iphone and received a case, the seller is giving me a hard time to refund me, when i did research outside of eBay they have scam many other users. I really pray I get my money back and eBay believe my side of the story

Sellers, if someone tries to scam you this way, offer a return and a full refund once the return has been completed. Ebay will side with you and force them to return the item to get a refund. I've had many a scammer try this with me. OFFER THE RETURN STRAIGHT AWAY, do not do partial refunds unless you feel like you want to

Once the seller closes the return eBay money-back guarantee won't help anymore
