Volvo XC70 152KW 2010 D5
The thermostat is located in a very difficult place, it is quite difficult and time consuming to change.

it usually takes 1 hour to change the thermostat. This car was in a very difficult place. I changed Volvo for the first time and it took 11 hours including filming. Spetsal changes in 5-6 hours

Awesome video! Me and a friend replaced the thermostat on my Volvo V70 D5 2010 last weekend. It took us close to 7 hours, and we would not have made it without your video. The hardest part for us was removing the EGR-cooling-housing, which was badly stuck to the thermostat pipe for some reason. Other than that it was just a matter of patience, and hard to get to bolts and screws.

This video helped me a lot. Im in the middle of the exact same job with my 2010 xc70 d5. What a huge pain in the ass this was. It took me a lot of force to get the old thermostat out. Stupid design by Volvo. Older D5 engines are much better regarding repair wise

I changed my stat about 3 weeks ago, car was running at 60 deg max, now running at 84-90 deg with obd2 reader, (I got the stat from Parts for Volvo's online) hardest part was getting the one securing bolt out for the stat, T30 bit and no room to get in at all (ended up with 6" mole grips after 2 hrs of failed attempts !) refitted with a 6mm hex head bolt and access is easy with ratchet spanner. Total time was 16 hrs over 2 days including cleaning EGR valve and pipework out, big saving on Volvo prices and worth doing to improve MPG/DPF regen issues !

My 1999 V70 replacement took 20 minutes - just take off the cover of the cambelt (two T30 screws), loosen radiator hose (one srew) and remove two T40 screws for the thermostat housing... job done. Keep radiator cap on and hardly any spillage from the hose detached from the thermostat housing. Pop in new thermostat and reverse process. Shan't buy a XC70 diesel. Thermostats last about 10 years before they go boing on one side so stay open as the metal clip breaks.

So the thermostat on my car needs replacing and the workshop guys said it's a pain in the rear on my car (2010 V70). This video is the confirmation. On a 2008 V70/XC70 it's a 20 min job. So I was just thinking who in the world thought it as a good idea to place the thermostat over there!? On all my previous cars, the thermostat was just a small piece of of something which cost nothing and I could replace it myself if I wanted. Here the mechanic will have to spend half of his day, so it will cost a fortune in labour and the original part is 190 eur, too. 🤦‍♂

Great Video, the P3 D5 has so many variations of cooling system. A garage has fitted the same thermostat and housing, together with water pump, Radiator, Reverse flushed heater matrix, temp sender, checked fan and sniff test. Car still overheats, below 50mph 105deg, above 50mph temp rises until WARNING illuminates. Fans constantly run at 97%. when stationary temp drops to 96deg. I've driven like this for 600k. Garage won't look any further, cannot get cooling system diagram anywhere. Strange thing is drivers side heating works, but passenger side only gets warm and bottom radiator hose feels empty. Any idea's? please.

Good video, thanks. But, You forgot to tighten the air filter pipe !!! You can see it when you start the engine.

The first, the only and the best video of this job-good work! Do you know where the coolant temperature sensor is located on this engine??

How did you get round the vac line running through the pipes of the thermostat? Found this to be the worst bit getting that on /off

Hello
how does the thermostat itself disconnect from the water connection, as the bolt holding it is developed?
