The sun is not white. White implies equal brightness at all colors, or (in sciency terms) a flat specturm. Instead, the sun has (approximately) a black body spectrum, with a peak brightness at 550 nanometers wavelength, which is a yellowish-greeninsh color. Because of the way we see color, this is referred to as yellow. If we were an astronomer in another star system and looking at the sun through a telescope, we would say that the sun is white at the center with a yellowish tinge around the edges.
