In this video, we’re going to talk about gastric bypass and diabetes. I’m going to answer the question, can gastric bypass reverse diabetes and other diseases?

Overview of Healthy Keto and Intermittent Fasting:

Download Keto Essentials

Gastric bypass can help reverse:

• Diabetes by 83%
• Central obesity
• Hypertension by 63%
• High cholesterol by 61%
• Kidney dysfunction
• Fatty liver
• PCOS
• Sleep apnea
• Stroke (can help decrease risk)
• Certain cancers by 70%
• Cardiovascular disease
• Atherosclerosis
• Pseudotumor cerebri
• GERD
• Joint pain
• Retinopathy

Side effects of gastric bypass:

• Malabsorption syndrome
• Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
• Protein deficiency
• INF
• Death
• Kidney stones
• Peripheral neuropathy

During gastric bypass surgery, they alter a part of your small intestine—the part that stimulates insulin when you eat. Now, you can greatly reduce insulin and handle other problems. However, it’s much safer to do this naturally. All you have to do is get on healthy keto and do intermittent fasting.

Kidney stones versus cancer, I'll take the stones. Death occurs to all of us. I will never regret my bypass. I ate mostly healthy but I tried everything before I tried surgery. I do eat low carb, not keto. I feel so, so much better. I still have arthritis but without the weight on my joints, I can exercise which helps arthritis, etc. My sleep apnea is resolved, my cholesterol levels are excellent, just can't regret something that has changed my life so radically. I do understand your POV and of course, surgery shouldn't be your first choice, it certainly wasn't mine but sometimes, nothing works long term. I know I can screw the bypass up since the surgery doesn't fix your brain but the weight loss is giving me time to fix the brain a bit more.

Three friends of mine have died after having this surgery. It took years, sometimes over a decade, but it always caught up with them. They were never the same - getting infections, going back and forth to the doctor for all sorts of issues. Please do not get this surgery unless it is the last resort.

I'm going through the process for a gastric sleeve BUT after a month of watching Dr. Berg and many many youtubers who eat Keto and IF, I have decided right this second NOT to have this surgery

I was advised to have gastric sleeve surger by my doctor about 2 years ago, but decided to go keto instead. I lost 95 pounds with keto and IF. I can't tell you how many people I know had the surgery and gained it all back.

After I had this surgery, my life was never the same. I was ecstatic to see the pounds just melting away at the beginning, I began working out and running marathons, I wore a swimsuit in public for the first time in my life...it seemed great...at first. But fast forward a bit and now -- for lack of a better explanation, it seems like I cannot nourish my body enough, so it feels like I'm in a constant state of decline/hunger/under- or malnourishment. The doctors neglect to tell you that your gut is like your body's second brain...vital to hormone production & absorption of key vitamins/minerals/etc....they also fail to mention that the reason you need to supplement with vitamins for the rest of your life is because they are BYPASSING the very spot in your body where nutrients are ABSORBED! They make it seem like it's because you'll be eating significantly less. And these are only very small examples of the issues I've experienced thus far.
Granted, there have been benefits as well...yet I can't help but wonder if a lot of the health issues I've experienced post-surgery, might have been avoided had I not done it at all. I can't say I'd recommend this surgery anymore...maybe under life or death circumstances, I suppose...and even then, I'd seek out alternate options.

Some of the side effects of gastric bypass are not minor; my friend died within a week of the procedure.

So glad to hear a nonsurgical alternative that gives results without side affects.

This is a good point. If you get on a healthy keto you will avoid a dangerous surgical procedure and its complications.
Thanks Dr Berg.

I know people that have had the sleeve done with no problems except temporary hair loss which can be corrected by taking biotin. It is not for everyone but can save lives

I’m a successful gastric bypass patient. Had the surgery in 2007. Keto and IF have helped me keep the weight off. It’s the only way a Gastric patient should eat. I think the sleeve and bands are poor idea. Those procedures don’t alter the small intestine and you can still eat poorly. With full bypass you get the benefit. I agree it’s dangerous but it changed my life. I go 160 now down from 246. I’m fit and 55 years old ride my bike and do body weight workouts.

I did the gastric bypass and the weight came back after several years. I have lost more on keto than on gastric bypass. If I had known of keto I would not have done it. Knowledge is power.

I recommend keto as a option and maintenance for bypass. The dumping crisis was my nightmare after the bypass, I started keto 6 months ago and it never happened again. I need to take all kinds of vitamins and supplements, if I knew keto before I should have test. I wasn't fat or on a poor diet and my diabetes liver and kidney was on the last hope. The bypass reverse all diseases but the maintenance is too hard.

Im very well aware that there are risks involved in weightloss surgery, and it is many peoples belief that it should be 'last resort'.. after going keto etc etc. But everyones situation is unique. For me, I won't do keto due to the high fat content, which in turn, causes high cholesterol and contributes to poor heart function. I eat relatively well, but im having the sleeve as i went from thin and healthy to overweight due to an inadequate immune system, hashimotos, hypothyroidism.. and the rapid weight gain from those caused a hiatial hernia that causes me immense pain and burning from severe indigestion, it also caused me to become pre-diabetic. Due to my immune system causing me so much grief, ive become tired and lethargic and unable to excersie like i used to. The sleeve is going to be my saving grace. By reversing the pre diabetes and helping my body to lose a little weight.. it will be he kick start my body needs to repair and have more energy to do the rest on my own. All our situatuons are different and unique. Do your research. Get therapy. Weigh up your options. And be ready mentally to make the changes. Thats all it takes to succeed 🙏🏽

Dr. Berg, I began my weight loss journey in January 2019. I have been faithfully following a Keto eating plan with intermittent fasting. I am 59 and have been obese for most of my adult life. I have lost weight many times, only to gain it back, plus. I started this latest journey at 425 pounds. I have lost 100 pounds to date. I was not considered to be pre-diabetic, but I think I was near that point. All of my blood numbers have fallen back into the normal ranges, with the exception of my LDL cholesterol. It has raised slightly. My doctor has recommended statins, but I refused, based on the horrible side effects. I feel better than I have in years. I can walk much better and I my hunger is under control for the first time in my life! I think I can easily sustain this eating plan for the rest of my life. It is very easy. My next goal is to lose another 50 pounds by May 2020, then another 50 by January 2021. I notice that I am losing weight slower than most, but I am happy with the results so far.
