How Chick-Fil-A Built Their Chicken Empire

Nowadays, you can find a chicken sandwich anywhere. KFC, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Burger King, and the gas station on the corner have all been slinging their versions of this American favorite since the chicken sandwich wars started in 2019. With such a saturation of chicken sandwiches, how does someone choose where to get one of these delicacies? Well, maybe you’ve heard the slogan “we didn’t invent the chicken, just the chicken sandwich”. Born and breaded in Georgia, crafted by S. Truett Cathy way back in the 1960s, the classic chicken sandwich from Chik-fil-A just hits different than the copycats and imitators that have come onto the scene since. Maybe it’s in the seasoning or maybe it’s the southern charm, but whatever the secret ingredient is, it’s delicious. Buckle up, because on this episode of Every Last Crumb, we’re taking a ride through the drive-thru of history to tell you exactly how Chik-Fil-A built their Chicken Empire.

I'm a fan of a really good, spicy chicken sandwich. When Popeye's came out with theirs in 2019, I tried it and it was good, but then I noticed that the consistency between locations was off. Some of their sandwiches were really spicy, while others didn't even register to me as having any spice whatsoever. Found out later the spice was really from the sauce a whole lot more than the chicken fillet. To me that's what sets Chick-Fil-A apart from the other chicken sandwiches, especially their spicy chicken sandwiches. The spice isn't in the sauce (though some of their sauces certainly enhance the spice), but rather the preparation and the breading. To me this is a whole lot more consistent. I know exactly what I'm getting with the Chick Fil-A spicy chicken sandwich compared to a Popeye's chicken sandwich. That isn't to say Popeye's isn't good, the fillet itself is fine. I just never really know if it's going to be spicy or not. I don't have to question with Chick Fil-A, and that's why 9/10 times I'll go there instead.

Being completely honest here, I am from Puerto Rico and I was pretty skeptical of the franchise when it first came last year since I thought Popeyes couldn’t be beaten and thought the hype around it was just white people… but ever since I took the first bite, I’ve never been back to Popeyes 😅😂😂
