I saw someone said van life is the gentrifified version of being homeless and living in your car. I can't think of anything else when I see these van videos

They'll put their kids in literal shelves and then have the biggest bed known to man in their room lol

You missed the part where the "mommy daddy" room is like half the van, with a whole closet, ceiling fan, and door

camper life survivor here! i was 11-14, oldest of three kids. yeah it wasn’t fun, however- we stayed put (it was to save money), i went to school, and it was a little bigger than a van since it was a camper. two rooms plus a bathroom. i can’t imagine having that experience forced on me (my parents made it clear if it got too hard for the family we would give up on building a house and move out of the camper, our family decided to stick it out) and FILMED. it wasn’t torture- i accepted it- but if i was being patronized and isolated i would lose it

Four kids… and she only said how three had privacy.

Don’t forget how the parents always have a real bedroom with a king size bed and doors and the 7+ kids get crammed into a broom closet

I saw a woman in the wild today refer to her child as her "little" and I was like...when did this become a thing. I hate this.

I grew up homeless and in a van. It disturbs me that parents with the means to support their kids choose to do this. 😂

I'm dreaming of getting a van with my mom one day!
But that's because we have a whole house to rest in, we are content and happy with just each other, a curtain is privacy enough for us (except maybe her snoring..) and both of us are adults, no kids.

I'm already planning to stay living at home and save up all the money I earn so we can afford to let our dream come true before my disabled mother becomes entirely immobile.
Then I can either sell the van or use it for fun occasional camping trips with my future kids and family

Poverty is an aesthetic to these people and they didn’t even recognize when they’re doing it wrong

It’s fine for a single person, it’s not okay for a family.

Had a friend who was dragged into van life with his 4 siblings and dog by his parents. The lived on a bus rather than a van but considering it was 7 people + 1 dog it was not nearly enough room. I was also during the rather vital period of his pre-teen to teen years for at least 3+ years and he regularly talks about how he felt he lost all his privacy, freedom, space to discover himself, and the ability to experience making friends. The beds him and his siblings slept in weren't even big enough for him considering he had a growth spurt very early on and had to learn not to move in his sleep so he wouldn't hurt himself or fall since they were also on literal shelves.

Don’t forget the kids being put in literal cubbies while the parents have converted half of the van into a bedroom for them I literally saw one where they had one kid sleeping on the floor, four kids in two literal drawers converted into “beds” two kids per drawer, and the parents had a big bedroom all to themselves

Lived in a camper for like two years when I was younger because we couldn't afford an apartment at the time, we all hated it so much and nobody got decent privacy idk how the people actually doing this are so delusional tbh
