The liver is the largest internal organ in the body, weighing 3 ½ pounds. It’s responsible for around 500 different functions including digestion and detoxification. Everything you eat or drink passes through the liver. Many of us mistreat this organ, usually without even knowing it. A number of things can be extremely hostile to the liver, alcohol consumption being the main culprit. A few others are over-the-counter pain medication, prescription meds that contain codeine, and anti-depressants like valium. Three more major villains are diabetes, obesity, and hepatitis. Keeping the liver healthy can be a bit tricky. Avoid eating the aforementioned items, get regular exercise, and immerse yourself in a healthy diet. Consume foods such as garlic, apples, carrots, asparagus, and avocados. Love your liver and your liver will love you back.
